No, I get that balance wise. I'm well aware of these self inflicted errors from Magic R&D. I just think it's dumb from a consumer standpoint to put any money down into competitive Magic as a hobby nowadays with the frequency of format warping cards being printed and then subsequently banned...

I don't know why you'd even want to play competitive Magic at this point anymore.

General Subthemes at High Power Levels

Torrential is a great card but Combustible was meh in practice for years in my list. It just wasn't all that interesting to my drafters or even to me when I'd try going for the U/R Artifacts deck. Also the problem with Torrential is that it's more a U/x control finisher than something you'd want...

General Subthemes at High Power Levels

Yeah, they're definitely playable in other decks, but they're not the most exciting picks. I wish there were more exciting 4-6 CMC artifact creatures that readily slotted into U/R artifacts, but there just aren't too many great options out there. That would be the sweet spot for cross archetype...

I like Kiki a bit more but not really a fan of either in Cube nowadays. Kiki has more interactions with other cards being a creature, but it's just a very all-in strategy in Cube. The biggest problem with Kiki decks from my experience is that pretty much every time you draft it in U/R, even if...

General Subthemes at High Power Levels

At a higher power level for subthemes to work you need individual cards that have enough "density" to point your drafters towards cards that synergize with them, but are still powerful enough to be worth picking up by themselves. Your subtheme(s) manifest as you're able to build additional value...

General Subthemes at High Power Levels

This definitely gets there power-wise, but it's up to you whether you'd want to track ability counters in paper. I'm all for it in digital due to easier tracking, but I'm never running any of those Ikoria ability counter cards in my paper cube.

Huh. I just overlooked that it was a Human Warrior token this entire time. My brain just shortcutted it like with Mardu Strike Leader to just Warrior. Much better than I thought. I'd put it up to 1st then off that detail alone; makes a huge difference to me. You probably just run both of them...

In a vacuum it's Usher. Being able to go wide without committing more resources from your hand is great. If you run a Humans archetype with stuff like Champion of the Parish and Thalia's Lieutenant? I'd stick with the Woe-Reaper. It's the only reason I haven't yet made that swap.

Good points. I'd say that the appeal for me is more than it's a jack-of-all trades and master of none inclusion. It's not particularly great at anything and can't do the Tarmogoyf impression like the Channeler, but it has more flexibility in multiple archetypes. It's definitely not my first...

    General Landfall and Landfall Aggro

Brushfire looks fine to me as supplemental card for G/R Landfall, but it's not really a reason to go into the archetype. Hexdrinker is just some bullshit, play patterns really suck with that one. Living Twister reads better than it plays unless you're all in on the Wildfire plan. In Wildfire...

I like Dismissive Pyromancer way more. A bear is more serviceable than a 1/3 for the kinds of decks that would want these cards, it's a straight up rummager without timing restrictions, and it can be cashed in as a removal spell down the road to clear the way. It slots into more decks across the...

    Sets (KHM) Kaldheim Testing/Includes Thread

Not too many for me this time, nothing really caught my eye like in other sets: Doomskar Saw it Coming Behold the Multiverse Ranar the Ever-Watchful Mostly cards to supplement UW Control and give it a little oomph with a Foretell subgame that can be played. Ranar looks like a nice means of...

General Abzan "Put -1/-1 Counters On Your Own Stuff"

You can definitely pull this off at a lower power level, but it's always been pretty niche even with AKH block providing a bunch of support. The support cards that made the archetype work in Limited are just really really narrow to deploy. It's just way easier (and support is more frequent) to...

    General Sacrifice Outlets

Carrion Feeder Woe Strider Falkenrath Aristocrat For straight up sacrifice outlets, I think these 3 hold up really really well at a high power level. I've never been disappointed playing with any of them. There are also the many other options listed earlier in this thread that have a few more...

    General Favorite Planeswalker Cards?

Mu Yanling, Sky Dancer Daretti, Scrap Savant Saheeli, Sublime Artificer I've become a pretty big fan of these supplementary walkers. They don't necessary force you into an archetype or make you want to build around them specifically, but they serve as nice support for their specific...

Article Cross-Appeal in Cube — Recipes to Avoid the Pitfalls of Parasitic Archetypes

    General CBS

Probably just these two: Earthshaker Khenra Champion of Wits There needs to be enough value on the front side for it to be worth it, and the Eternalize is usually just gravy. Khenra is nice at pushing through damage early and coming back in (if necessary) late to just act as a big finisher...

    Card/Deck Single Card Spotlight

I may or may not have made land destruction a primary gameplan of a Ruric Thar EDH deck I had a while back. Can neither confirm nor deny how powerful Klothys is when you can rebuild much faster than everyone else. Also, you get to have all the fun while no one else does so it's extra juicy.

    Card/Deck Single Card Spotlight

Haven't tried it in Cube yet, but have slotted it into many EDH decks. Card is good. You really need to be able to turn on devotion to get the most out of it as a 4/5 beater, but it's passable. I think the problem in Cube is that there are more impactful and archetype-defining cards that could...
