    Card/Deck Single Card Spotlight

He is my favorite 1/3 for 1U in cube by far. He can do some serious work in tempo oriented UR builds. Playing him on curve just opens up a box of possible lines the rest of the way with burn spells and counters being even more efficient and tricky than they were previously. I remember getting...

Oh man, I'm going to need to pick up a playset of those bolts for my Modern deck. It looks fantastic. I'm always down for more choices in basic lands and promos and whatnot, but this set of basics looks very generic to me. And really, another Bolas horn land?

I really like Multani as a finisher. I feel like one of the bigger problems for G/x leaning decks in cubes with good removal and interaction is the inability to rebuild after having their threats dealt with since they expend so many resources trying to branch ahead into the late game with ramp...

    Card/Deck Single Card Spotlight

I've been playing with Crawler ever since it was first released, I think it's a solid card. You need to be able to consistently play it as a 4/4 for 4 for it to really be worth it, and you need to working towards something specific. If it's that big on curve, it can reasonably keep up with any...

    The Video Game Thread

I'm playing Shadow of the Colossus Remastered for the PS4 right now and it is absolutely gorgeous. I'm still playing with the PS2 classic control scheme which is pretty dogshit, but I've got the muscle memory ingrained after buying it for the 3rd time.

Generous Patron Black Sun's Zenith I'm pretty sure it triggers multiple times depending on the number of creatures your opponent controls. It doesn't care about the value of X for Black Sun's Zenith, just the number of enemy bodies that will be gaining counters.

A List of Riptiders Who Actually Play Magic

I have periods where I'm back into the game and then I'm out again. I'll keep up for a bit, maybe get a little more invested into Modern or EDH stuff, then kind of dip out for a month. Cube doesn't happen as often with most people in my main playgroup having moved out of town after graduating...

I would go with Midnight Reaper and Isareth. Reaper has relevant typing with zombie in case you're running Gravecrawlers and it replaces itself once it dies. I like that it encourages aggressive play while having your opponent make decisions about whether it's worth it to let you ping yourself...

I would imagine that it's probably powerful enough to be featured as a draftable land on its own. The only reason I have it in my ULD currently is because I have Volrath's Stronghold taking up a slot in the main cube and don't want to have two lands with the same color identity.

I've tried them both in the past, I think Pridemate was on average better due to being a bear. Lone Rider reads better than it plays from my experience, you need to deploy it on curve or suited up to get the actual payoff. Otherwise it gets walled off by just about everything. I found it very...

Might be me? I did bottom left and right of cards, easier to see when fanning through a pack.

Have yet to test either, will run both in the near future, but if I had to choose I'd go with Cratermaker. Being able to represent a shock on a body + stop future colorless plays until it's dealt with for only 1 mana (and no tapping!) is really good. You can also sandbag it for post-combat...

    General [GRN] Guilds of Ravnica

Yeah, I just drafted Boros bears full of just commons and uncommons on Friday and kind of cruised to an easy 3-0 in my pod. Being able to punch through for a few points early plus chip away with that one guy that you can pay 1W to fly (I had 3) for that turn tends to get the job done. It was...

I'd love to hear more stories of it actually coming together because it is a sweet card, but I dunno if a 6 mana do nothing is where I would want to be. Seems like you'll have to sandbag a big of set-up just to go off the following turn, though admittedly if you win the game that's a pretty good...

    Card/Deck Single Card Spotlight

The idea of Scourge is far more attractive than the actual gameplay. I tried to make it work for a very long time, but no one really bought into it and there were too many hoops to jump through for a not great payoff. It's more cute than effective and often times it was kind of hard to find an...

Headed up to Seattle for a long weekend between 11/7 - 11/11 later this year. Any recommendations? Also, anyone in the area want to grab a beer and/or play children's card games?

General Current opinion on duplicates and other Riptidian/Waddellisms?

The quality would be nice, but ultimately I don't like playing with cards that aren't official. Finding solutions and existing pieces that fit into what I'm trying to build is more interesting to me than having the perfect card to slot in at the ready. The most fun part of cube, for me, is the...

General Current opinion on duplicates and other Riptidian/Waddellisms?

I haven't updated it in quite a while, but I did have a post detailing my entire process along with photos in my cube thread around a year back. As far as customs go, I enjoy seeing and reading new designs but including them in an environment is just not my thing. It just feels kind of awkward...

General Current opinion on duplicates and other Riptidian/Waddellisms?

I like them more than AKH cycle duals, but my environment is also a bit more powerful and faster than one where those would truly shine. Coming into play tapped at all times is a bit of a turnoff because more aggressive decks will not be happy drafting them. What I like about the BFZ duals is...
