    General Custom Cards: The Lab

I ran proxies that showed both sides of the DFC for a while, with the actual DFC in a clear sleeve in the token box. It worked, but I grew tired of having to go the extra mile to make DFC's logistically playable. The lands are less egregious on the information visibility part, but even those...

General Cube Engineers: A Podcast about Cube!

Awesome content! Loved Chris’s takes too. I do think it’s interesting you count reminder text when looking at the number of lines on a card to determine card complexity. Keywords are, after all, a tool explicitly used to provide shortcuts to players, thereby increasing the grokability of a card...

    General Custom Cards: The Lab

You know, one of my main cube projects last year was to phase out all DFCs and replace the ones I really liked by custom SFCs, so I feel you!

That's why I said that I get it when you hate the release cycle. But in and of itself, a Magic the Gathering Direct that showcases multiple upcoming products isn't a bad thing imo.

I’m uncertain that I like SciFi in the Magic multiverse, but I have to admit the art for that set looked stellar! Also, it’s perfectly fine if you think the release calendar is too cramped (I would agree), but a big reveal day where you get a sneak peek at a number of upcoming releases is fine...

They are? I kinda hate it tbh. If I wanted anime art on my tcg, I would have switched to another card game by now.

    General [Voting] 72-card Nanocube

I loved the contest, but I didn't vote for pretty much the same reason I didn't make a submission. The time required to compete or vote was too high for me. To cast a fair vote, one would have study each cube (read the blurb, pore over a 180 card cube list, theorize how the format would play...

    Sets [FIN] [UB] Final Fantasy

In cases like this, using a goldfish scenario helps to see how big the difference between one- and two drop really is. For math purposes, let’s assume we draw two fetches (can be fetchlands, additional land drops like Explore, or Rampant Growth effects) in our opening four turns, and we don’t...

Poor WotC, can’t even eavesdrop on us safely outside of the clearly labeled Custom thread!

Wanting to replace Repeal isn’t necessarily crazy. It’s at its best in a format with a lot of meaningful tokens and low mv drops. You don’t really want it to cost more than Repulse. Unsummon, though, is never exciting I feel. There are a lot of sidegrades that are more likely to end up in a deck.

Overtune cards and dial them back after testing, or try to get them right the first time at the risk of no one picking the card during the draft?

    General Custom Cards: The Lab

CubeArtisan will be back online. No ETA, but the problem is known. Unfortunately, the owner’s time is occupied by things beyond her control at the moment. Once those things solve themselves, she’ll get the site back up and running. Another person had already volunteered to help out, so next time...
