Hearthstone clearly chose form over function in this regard. I think that's fine for what the game is, honestly. Because it's digital only, at least a given card will play consistently for every player, despite a player's interpretation of the rules text. For Magic that just isn't feasible...

We used to put the haunt card under the haunted creature as if it were an enchantment, and that was intuitive enough for us to never have any problems with it.

Virtus's Maneuver is a clean two for one, but you still have to work for it to make the most of it. I quite like it in theory, as it's an edict that still has some value against token decks.
