There is a big difference between looting and drawing a card. One is +1 card to your hand over the other. You can always just give it +1/+1 counter and the removal spell it? :P

I think this Meadhook Massacre II is a reference to the horror movies having sequels.

And therefore it has become a cheap card. Mana Crypt isn’t even though they are both going into the exact same decks if it wasn’t for the price difference.

The answer: Mana Crypt is a Commander staple card sitting at 180 Euro as cheapest variant on Cardmarket. Therefore people run Sol Ring instead.

Why Sol Ring and not Mana Crypt?
