General Life Gain as a Thing

I'm with Lucas on this one. I don't even go out of my way to support it, but the B/W Pay Life Then Gain Life archetype is far and away the most beloved deck here. I think we run more or less the same batch of life payment cards, plus or minus a Graveborn Muse and Night's Whisper. And my ten...

I may have to do something about that issue here, too. I initially thought that Karplusan Forest and friends were enough weaker than fetchlands & shocklands to make the utility draft interesting, but even as such, the first round usually involves automatically reaching for the requisite fixing.

When something like that happens to me, and I get multiple lands destroyed in a very improbable way, it puts a big smile on my face.

I haven't read anything about the mayor in the news in two whole days. That's a new record! I used to be one of those apathetic young people who couldn't be bothered to vote, and one thing the mayor did was to get me off my lazy butt and vote during the last municipal election in 2010 (on the...

    General Making Blue Do Things

October 2011? Please. I'd been running Phantasmal Bear in my cube for four months by that point. Ain't no one got the drop on no two power one drops more than this cat right here.

I had Shadowborn Demon for a while myself, too. Its main problem, aside from not having an alternate two mana sorcery mode, is that it's not all that easy to fill up your own graveyard in cube. In control decks with low creature counts, particularly, this makes him into a five-mana Murder. So...

Voidmage Prodigy, Ninja of the Deep Hours? Kai is kinda questionable even in my lower-powered environment, but the sneaky ninja totally does some work here. In the one drop category, Phantasmal Bear...? Not actually verified as good in cube, just stealing Travis Woo's idea.

Good call. When faced with the same decision, I actually cut Shriekmaw, as it doesn't fit with any of my supported tribes. But Lucas convinced me that control needed some juicing, so I added it back in and reluctantly axed Nekrataal. Still not sure if that's right.

Giant Trap Door Spider, eat your heart out. You ain't got nothin' on ol' Woolly.

Bone Shredder is really nice with your quartet of Birthing Pods, though. I'd be more inclined to cut one of Skinrender or Nekrataal, considering you also run the inimitable Shriekmaw.

Huh, you have a lot of black threes. Hyppie? edit: ninja'ed

Are those Woolly Spiders in that YouTube thumbnail? I knew it, even as a kid. That card was busted.

General Decks that have 3-0'd your cube

It was sad when I cast with Thundermaw Hellkite with what I thought was enough to pay for Brian's Rune Snag. But my own copy of Snag in my graveyard put an end to those hopes.

On that topic... Falkenrath Noble Card or no?

General Decks that have 3-0'd your cube

Heh. I'm not a fan of it, but it's totally a red herring, along with Bribery and Time Wasting Top. Each card has at least one devotee who loves it, so...

I.. didn't even realize Snakes and Lattes sold and shipped board games online (!). They were always known here as That Sweet Downtown Boardgame Cafe. Calling Lucas and Chris!

    Card/Deck Single Card Spotlight

Honestly, 2 cmc guys with 'just' power and toughness that cost 1C are a dime a dozen in every colour. So the multicolour ones don't really interest me all that much. The gold ones have to do something special before they catch my eye enough to warrant a slot.

    Card/Deck Single Card Spotlight

Olivia is actually the Queen of Control Finishers. When she's in play, she functions much like a planeswalker: remove her, or die. In particular, she eats small aggro creatures for breakfast, and dominates the creature-based matchups. She routinely took over so many games here that I'm currently...
