    The Book Thread

To start reading Atlas Shrugged I put down Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance, Into the Wild (Yes, I read all the cliche beatnik hitchhiker hippie books) and The Lies of Locke Lamora. I'm looking forward to getting back to these.

    The Book Thread

I told a friend I was reading it and he said "Oh no James, don't become a libertarian." So I finally managed to ask someone what that meant. Whenever CML would rant about them I'd look it up on wikipedia and it'd be like "Libertarians are people that hold liberty to be the highest right" or...

    The Book Thread

As I'm taking it, that's kind of the point. There may well be people like the main characters in this book - totally driven, smarter than almost everyone else, selfish, logical, cold - but they're such extremes of character that you might as well take them as abstractions. Part of what makes it...

    The Book Thread

It's thought provoking and I enjoy reading it, so I'm happy. Like all other books, I will devote no deep thought to it, I will read it and expect to become wiser through some sort of osmosis, just as I expect to be a good magic player, not by thinking but just by playing more than others. I'll...

    Card/Deck Single Card Spotlight

What does this actually do? I looked up the Rock Lobster lyrics to find the joke. I feel considerably enlightened, but not about this issue.

This is a pretty special book, I was blown away. I've read a few other things by her and they're good too. Even her short stories are thought-provoking. I put down The Lies of Locke Lamora because someone lent me Atlas Shrugged and I want to finish this fat tome.

General Where did you start with cube?

Reminds me of the Abba museum in Stockholm. 10/10 would lark around in the giftshop without actually going in the museum again.

General Where did you start with cube?

I started my cube like 8 or 9 years ago, trying to copy Evin Erwin's list as closely as possible. I read everything on maskedadmirers.wordpress.com and cubedrafting.com, Usman's articles and stuff too. I dunno when I started changing, but I got tired of bomby cards really fast and wanted to...

    The Book Thread

I took Jason's suggestion and started The Lies of Locke Lamora. It took about 50 pages before I liked it, but now I'm really into it. Can't wait to read more.

Spikeshot Elder is one of those cards I've never seen do anything, but stays in the cube because 2 people on riptidelab will think less of me if I take it out.

    The Book Thread

The first one I read was Guards! Guards! and I laughed so so much, it was absolutely wonderful. I enjoyed many of his books but after a while I found they got a bit samey. I had to stop reading Pratchett for a year or so, but I pick them up now and then. I'm looking for something serious and...
