General (SNC) Streets of New Capenna Previews

On one hand, Maestros Charm is the kind of Magic card I like to play with most, and want desperately to cube with it. On the other hand, I've started to remove utility / generic cards from even my guild slots, so having a utilitarian card be my sole Grixis representation instead of a sweet...

General (CLB) Magic: The Gathering: Commander Legends: Dungeons and Dragons: Battle for Baldur's Gate Previews. Even the NAME is long this time!

Mildly excited for this set. I'm entirely agnostic to D&D aesthetics, characters, and abilities, but Commander Legends was cool. Actually, looking it up...the only card I'm still playing from CMR was Hullbreacher, and it looks like I'm not alone. Originally read Ancient Brass Dragon as though...

    General Alchemy

I still think it's a bit smudgy all the same, even the large art version looks like it's missing the last 15% or so, factoring in feedback from the art director that took this set off or something. All the same, it's a great piece of art, which is a nice change of pace for Alchemy. For a game...

General [Lucky Paper] Cube Power Level: A Users' Guide

I love it. This is exactly the conversation I have (or at least, try to have) with folks when they're building their first cube, or when they're interested in the design philosophy of mine. I especially like the clarity with which you wrote out the advantages of higher and lower power. It's...

Would I cube this if it were a real card? Yeah, probably. Man, the art feels so...unfinished? It's such a big gap from the art direction of the main set.

There was a half million dollar tournament this weekend that I went out of my way to try caring about without any success because the cards are all fake. Funnily enough, the winning deck was a Venture deck! Turns out you only need to turn the knob on a few cards to get there. Can I say that it's...

Going to "third" Epicure -- if Kamigawa didn't give me two other red one-drops I'm more interested in testing out, I would've forced it into my mid-to-high-powered cube. It's an excellent piece of cardboard.

    Card/Deck Single Card Spotlight

I originally had planned on running Thousand-Faced Shadow and even had considered putting it in for Sakashima's Student, but the circumstances where you want to copy 1) a creature you control 2) a creature you control that's attacking and 3) a creature you control that's attacking with a second...

    Card/Deck Single Card Spotlight

I love it and don't want to ever cut it. Been running it since it was first printed. The WCS of it being a clone is not embarrassing, but typically you get to do your normal ninja shenanigans and may even get a sweet ETB that can mess with combat even more. Delightful little thing.

I love this precedent and agree it's awesome news. I was looking forward to another set with cycling (which makes sense for a three-color set!) but I will happily take this instead if it means we get to finish cycles and explore new ideas without dedicating an entire set mechanic in the process.

Very excited for all of this, but wow the borderless tri-lands all look exactly the same. I love my borderless triomes, but they're gonna have to not match here.

    Card/Deck Single Card Spotlight

I talk about how some cards don't work in my size of cube often enough that I want to make a second cube just to support cards like Titania. She's incredibly strong and cool and great but there's not enough fetch lands, Armageddons, etc. to make her consistent enough in a 720 list. Even doubling...

General Show me your discard and graveyard synergies

I just took this out of my cube as well, I'm surprised I was able to forget such a beloved pet card ! (actually no, it just doesn't come up with basically any of the common language used on scryfall that I used for refreshing my memory about reanimator). I'm desperate to make it work but my...

Sets (NEO) Kamigawa: Neon Dynasty Previews

The biggest benefit of Unforgiving One over Custodi Soulcaller is the menace imo Playing NEO limited, I'm finding it very hard to have more than 1 modified creature unless I go all in on counters, auras, and equipment, often at the expense of card quality.

Sets (NEO) Kamigawa: Neon Dynasty Previews

I spent too many years trying to make Isareth the Awakener, a card I love dearly for no good reason, to work to look at that card for more than a moment. It honestly seems like it'd be worse than Custodi Soulcaller in the typical scenario.

General Weekly Fun Q: What is your most expensive card?

According to the USD sort on CubeCobra, it's the Unlimited editions of: Underground SeaVolcanic IslandTropical Island Kind of boring but yeah, that makes sense. Don't have any super thrilling versions of cards. Other than the ten dual lands, it's just reserve list cross-format staples: Wheel...

Sets (NEO) Kamigawa: Neon Dynasty Previews

At the beginning of spoiler season I was planning to include it 100%, replacing Teshar, Ancestor's Apostle, a cute pet card that doesn't get picked highly, but has been able to do some work. Then Yoshimaru, Ever Faithful got spoiled, and I was able to justify continued historic support, which...

    General Fight Club

I do agree, but I also like cards to be cool. Taranika's art is fine, if a bit basic. I don't get a sense of the character, and there's a lot to read and grok with the ability. It plays much more simply than it reads, which is fine, but makes drafting more complicated. To wit, here are 3 MV...

    General Fight Club

And not as interesting as all the other white three drops for those of us on the knife's edge between the two. I tested it for four months or so, saw it hit the table maybe once. Honestly, the double pip in the cost was a killer besides its power level and lack of compelling synergy.
