    General Defining & Optimizing Complexity

The person who didn't talk about how cool it is gets to come up with an embarrassing nickname for that creature, which is now its legal name for the rest of the game.

I mean, at that point you might as well make something up. "Oh, yeah, there's actually a once-per-turn limit on talking about how cool any given creature is. Birgi lets you do it twice, which is cool but kinda useless."

I mean, if you want the memeiest deck... 4x Throes of Chaos 1x Tibalt's Trickery 1x Battle of Wits 224x Mountains 16% of the time it works every time! EDIT: On second thought, I'm pretty sure the combo turn violates the Geneva Convention. So maybe don't.

    Dom's Stream of Consciousness

You mean, like, literally anything? I get bored with goodstuff really easily. We're talking total snoozefest. EDIT: Just to clarify, I'm not saying that it's wrong to like goodstuff. It's just that I, personally, rapidly lose interest when the game goes from "work towards an overarching plan"...

Quick note as I run out the door... If you're uninterested in supporting midrange, the axis you should be looking at is Power vs. Synergy. You want to dissuade people from drafting 5c goodstuff? Make 5c goodstuff suck. Homework: find a way to do so that's actually fun.

The memory issue is a problem, yeah. As for the taplands thing... honestly, blacksmithy probably has the right idea if your aggressive decks have go under other decks to work properly (and aren't based on, say, trading card advantage for snowballing on-board value). ... A kinda-incoherent...

The reason I picked the Thriving lands over the Gates (even though the Gates were the actual cycle that made me think along these lines) is that the Gates might make a drafter go "ah, so this cube has Gate synergies", while Thriving Lands don't.

While this is true, it's important to keep in mind that fetches only achieve that flexibility if you have fetchable non-basics. If you only have basic Islands and Mountains in your deck, Scalding Tarn is basically just a funky Riverglide Pathway. (This is just stating the obvious, sure, but it...

On a different land-related note... I feel like this cycle is the best cycle of dual lands WotC has ever printed, as far as drafting is concerned. Thriving Heath Thriving Isle Thriving Moor Thriving Bluff Thriving Grove You see, each one is secretly four different dual lands, and you choose...

This is arguably the worst idea for a format I've ever heard of, and I've given serious thought to building a Yet Another Aether Vortex cube. :p Like, I know it's a joke, but the problem here is that Cloudpost counts all Locuses in play. If both players make their land-drops on the first couple...

Honestly, the only way I could see that not being GRBS is if you gave them exactly two Cloudposts. Anything less, and it's not worth running over a basic land (unless you desperately need a way to cast Warping Wail or whatever). Anything more, and you need to start severely limiting the amount...

The problem with the Tron lands and Cloudpost in draft is that they're literally just Wastes if you only have one copy. As a result, you're only going to run Cloudpost in your deck if you happened to pick up 2+ copies, and the people who managed that are probably going to highly prioritize any...

    General Custom Cards: The Lab

I honestly want them to finish this cycle of cycles: Nimbus Maze|FUT River of Tears|FUT Graven Cairn|FUT Grove of the Burnwillows|FUT Horizon Canopy|FUT Yes, I know that we got all of the filterlands... but we only have 6 of the canopy lands, and none of the others have gotten any attention.

    General Custom Cards: The Lab

Honestly, I feel like Scrolls could be handled more elegantly if you stole the wording from Legion Angel and did some jiggery-pokery with the Scrolls themselves: Skyshroud Packleader - {1}{G} Creature - Elf Scout Reach When ~ enters the battlefield, you may reveal a card you own outside of the...

    General Defining & Optimizing Complexity

Having watched someone play Pauper recently, a thought has occurred to me: One thing to consider when thinking about the complexity of your format as a whole is the relative power level of your enablers vs. your threats. If you look at Standard, you have an environment where your threats tend...

I'm curious. What are your favorite cards, flavortext-wise? They don't have to be good cards, they just have to have sweet flavor. This is honestly probably my favorite: Hold The Line
