Pretty unsure about Vamps, but cool that you're testing it. Are you updating the Utility Lands for Tezzy?

    Card/Deck Counterspells

Well, one difference is that a lot of duders have ETB effects that provide value even through removal, whereas they provide no value through countermagic. That means it's only a matter of time until Wizards prints cards that say "when you cast this spell, do X". Oh right, Cascade.

I don't often laugh out loud when on the computer, but for some reason this article cracked me up: http://newsfeed.time.com/2013/12/23/amazon-is-at-war-with-monster-erotica/?hpt=hp_t3

For those of you wondering, this article started as a Facebook conversation where I told James I used his hitchhiking as an excuse to possibly delay a date.

    Card/Deck Counterspells

I don't know the exact reason why, but soft counters are all amazing here. Daze, Spell Pierce, Force Spike and Mana Tithe all get the job done. Note that Spell Pierce becomes less "feel bad for holding mana open" the more instants you have. If you're like Eric and not running Dismember and...

Card/Deck Tezzeret (either one) and making them work in cube

Just jam UB Tezzeret and some artifact lands into the utility draft. That's all it took for us to get a 3 - 0 Tezzeret artifact control list. If you really want you can include build-a-Baneslayer targets like Vault Skirge, which also supports the lifegain theme.

Article ChannelFireball: Ghost of Cubing Future

Well, right, I just used unbalanced as a filler word. Any game where both players / teams start out with the same resources is "balanced", but can still just suck / be unsatisfying / be boring when played competitively.

Article ChannelFireball: Ghost of Cubing Future

This is a great post. No, not for everyone, but, I guess the main metric I go for is "rewarding gameplay at high level competitive play". This is likely influenced by my Major League Gaming background. Take a game like Halo 1. The default weapon, the Pistol, could drop an opposing player in...

Article ChannelFireball: Ghost of Cubing Future

I will say, cards like Armageddon, Upheaval and Sulfuric Vortex did at times create really memorable and interesting games. I don't really miss them though, but perhaps there's a discussion to be had on baking tension and "wow" moments into "fair" cubes? I do find the "tank from Turn 1" games...

Article ChannelFireball: Ghost of Cubing Future

Yeah, not my best article, although I have gotten some good feedback via email and the RipLab front page. I've had a lot of assorted thoughts that I've been looking for a home for, and hold pretty strongly that "low curve, strong aggro, high removal density" is a winning formula for much better...

Article ChannelFireball: Ghost of Cubing Future

Here's the argument I would make. You start with 20 life. If you have a low curve, but low power, you can't always properly incentivize actually playing the one drops. I would offer Hannes' original cube. It had a reasonable curve, but the power level was so low that you could just sit around...

I ran double Gargadon for a while in a cube extremely pushed towards sacrifice effects and was surprised by how little work he did.

    Card/Deck Vamps

I think Bloodline Keeper is a pretty shitty lord, and think the "archetype" just needs one cool incentive card, as you can easily reach a high density of good cards that are incidentally vampires and can go in other decks. Duskmantle Seer is cool, and, in a way, supports the lifegain theme...

    Card/Deck Single Card Spotlight

Cathodion is best in unison with the Utility Land Draft: High Market Phyrexian Tower I run him in the Eldrazi cube, where he's pretty sweet and does work. Caleb is actually my favorite CFB contributor and the one I read the most, despite not actually playing Legacy myself.

I would keep it in for the sweetness factor. The wish rule is one of the best parts of the format... And I think the Red zenith is the most insane of the bunch in microsealed.
