    General Fight Club

I would really fill out your 2cc counter section before including any 3cc counters besides exclude. In most cubes 2cc counter spells aren't really back breaking and they sorta self moderate in volume as they lose some of their usefulness in later turns. It's also just nice because the 3cc ones...

    General stock cube biases

I remember seeing on a cube set review someone criticized commenting (paraphrased) "360 vs 720 is a better metric for set review than whether the card makes it into Powered / Unpowered." it got a million likes and I was just dumbfounded. Powered / Unpowered are one of the few basic design...

Card/Deck Kill it with fire (let's talk removal)

Because premium removal is usually easy for aggro decks to pick up early (many of their core cards no one else want unless they are hybrid beaters), I've been noticing a trend through modern cube, peasant and to a lesser extent grim monolith cube, that control decks often want to branch into 3+...

General Riptidelab mostly-custom cube attempt #1

This is sounding like a great limited set but maybe too harsh for cube to be designed around. I know Anotak loves coloured artifacts. What fantasy landscapes have a lot of artifact creatures? I guess Arthurian or Savage fantasy could have a lot of colourful equipment and the like. I know you...

General Riptidelab mostly-custom cube attempt #1

Yeah and Arthurian Chivalry "Sword in the Stone" type stuff is really cool. I also like the idea of cutesy fantasy, but lorwyn's tribal feel feels too predominant. Maybe something more committed to folklore than worldbuilding. Like instead of making a whole race of gingerbread construct soldiers...

Setting ideas while I stretch: Return to weird plane (ie Homelands) More gothic horror I guess but there's tonnes of room there because it's so old now. Remains of Rath could also be possible Empty world of mysterious ruins (nothing here but spirits and the humans that are discovering it and...

    General Fight Club

I'm not here to argue Eric. Anotak told me I should look at this thread because he knows I love blue 2 cc spells. Discussion of my suggestion to you was not the bulk of the post and I submitted no personal opinions on your cube in the post. You know I like rune snags a lot. I'd even recommend it...

General Riptidelab mostly-custom cube attempt #1

Some mechanics I designed recently and can remember while I put on my running shoes: Habitat - When you control X or more lands (or less etc) something happens. Dig 4 (to dig look at the top 4 cards of your library, you may put one on top of your library and put the rest into your graveyard.)...

    General Fight Club

The right cube really rewards people for picking up Daze. I tend to like Memory Lapse a lot in non-blue decks and decks with things like venser and clique in it, but I can agree that there are better options, I just like what a hard wrench it throws into the works splashably, and more or less...

    General "Draw a card."

I love spell bombs. I've also always loved Akroma's Vengeance. I'll tell you I cycled that card a lot in constructed. Less in cube but whatever. I like it a lot. It's a good wrath for planeswalker decks and punishes fast mana decks in cubes that play a lot of artifacts or elves.

Omg these are pretty hilarious. What would this blue deck look like lol.

    Card/Deck Single Card Spotlight

It's harder to deal with things like Thrun + anything. Twice that day it involved wolf run, once it involved a sword, after having dealt with one of the wolf runs in a game and finally gotten a substantial blocker out ( a serious investment of a six mana creature to keep a 4/4 off your back) he...

    Card/Deck Single Card Spotlight

Are you giving people the draft fodder necessary for the average deck to have a lot of reliable answers to thrun, even if answered at a disadvantage? 4 toughness + regeneration is rough stuff, even if removal did work on the big idiot. I guess you run hallowed burial so whatever. I'm just...

General Decks that have 3-0'd your cube

You do damage really slowly and most of the decks I played felt more inevitable than me unless I was playing very well. Like the decision to start committing damage to attacking with things instead of blocking, or committing mana to man lands instead of playing defensive is usually kinda tense...

General Decks that have 3-0'd your cube

Eric, I think I may have a problem 2-0-1'd with this the other day in a monolith cube Ones 1 Lightning Bolt 1 Inquisition of Kozilek Twos 1 Condescend 1 Snapcaster Mage 1 Remand 1 Terminate 1 Demonic Tutor 1 Epochrasite 1 Baleful Strix 1 Coldsteel Heart 1 Prismatic Lens Threes 1 Compulsive...

General It could happen in any number of formats

I forgot to say about my the Grixis deck I played recently Okay Firstly I had a couple of games where I would use my Remand and my Snapcaster Mage early making sure my opponent had no fun ever and then proceed to lategame Profane Command my Snapcaster Mage into anything because it doesn't...

    General In search of ideas

wow six mana board wipes usually feel like total concessions to me when I am comfortable enough with a core of removal but acknowledge that I need more. I think it's more important to make your early turns (and draft picks that relate to them) way more interesting. Weenie decks are sorely...

    General In search of ideas

I don't really consider most thoughtful cubes to be too guilty of roshambo dynamics, the go big vs go under vs play defensive is much more evident in more classic cube making. The philosophy of red fun police decks evolved through very midranged formats where aggro-capable creatures were much...
