That is literally how my cube functions. But 70 % of the picks are a spell + a basic land. About 30 % are actually what you were referring to.

I would say so. Indestructible and protection almost covers the same when it comes to removal. Indestructible might be a bit better. Protection is also pseudo unblockable. The real difference is the deathtouch. Now it can take down Titans and still live.

Swords maks it sounds like it produces 3 mana equipments with protection from X and Y from Mirrodin blocks :)

The correct spelling is ‘phoenices’ although it has been largely accepted to spell it ‘phoenixes’. Give it 10 years and they will be equally accepted :P
