They are called Battlelands because Wizards of the Coast introduced the lands as ‘Battlelands’ when they first spoiled the lands but the name is misleading. They were named Battlelands because they came out in Battle for Zendikar. Not because they were particularly good at battling anything...

I am pretty sure (but not 100 %) that they will not do comebacks of previous Guild mechanics in the second return (and not third as you said ;)) Ravnica block. I believe that is what they said during the announcement interview. Personally I just hope they can keep it interesting with three sets...
