Velrun, you're talking to blacksmithy here. They have built their cube around that, and also are fully convinced that everyone else should build their cube that way as well. Come on, this is like talking to me and not going "what heinously stupid design restriction have you decided on today?"

Revival is probably the better card, yeah.

I think it's also important to bear in mind that blacksmithy's cube has a super low average mana cost. Given that they also like 3+ color decks, that requires a level of fixing that's closer to Modern/Legacy/Vintage than any limited format I can think of.

Thawing Glacier What are people's thoughts about this one in a cube with land untappers?

Jumping off this discussion... has anyone (other than Brad) built a cube with skewed fixing? In other words, a cube where some 3+ color combinations are easier than others? I think I've brought this up in the past in the context of a "classic Modern" cube, where there's a draw towards building...

I like the idea of Orchard Strider a bit more, honestly. But why not... Krosan Tusker

You also probably run better mana fixing than 90% of the rest of us. :p But yeah, I agree that Lier is way swingier than Kess. She also turns off counterspells entirely, which is kinda lame.

    Card/Deck Earthcraft/Cryptolith Rite Archetype

Quest for Renewal Oh, hey, look, it's basically Wilderness Reclamation. ... Looking back over this thread, it feels like this "archetype" is more like Wildfire than anything else — it doesn't necessarily create a new deck, it just transforms one that was already there by giving it an...

I think the new frame generally looks better, but in this specific case the art matches the muddier frame better. And, on top of that, the old border one has a cleaner text box. Not great for actual play, but prettier for display.

Yeah... I think Old Border Timeless Dragon looks way better, but I'd probably run the other version in any deck where I hadn't gone out of my way to solely run old border cards.

If I was putting them on a shelf to look at, sure. But if I'm playing a game, I want the board state to be as clean and easy to read as possible.

I knew a guy who swore by using two dice for every pile of tokens. The first die recorded how many untapped tokens there were in that pile. The second die recorded how were tapped. He never gave me a satisfactory answer to the whole "what if someone bumps some of the dice?" issue.

I'd hate to play with your cube, Ravnic — having miss-matched card frames for non-lands gives me the willies. ... That came out wrong, sorry. I do feel like having a different frame for lands is actually a good thing, though (as long as you can still identify what color they're...

I think it really helps that we're a forum dedicated to a creative, non-competitive aspect of Magic, and that our uniting design aesthetic is "I want to run interesting archetypes in my cube. How do?"
