I watched it. My girlfriend and I did the whole "guess the Top 3" thing, and I already had Belgium and Sweden in, debating between Portugal and Italy. I didn't actually like the Italian entry, but the Belgian commentator kept saying that it might be the winner, so I wrote that down. Whoops...

My experience with Molten Tail is that there are random games that it completely takes over, and some times those outlier BCS examples can warp my view of the card. When I actually put it in my cube, it was such a dud.

I would argue that in constructed you usually figure out what deck someone is playing just by like, their Turn 1/2 plays anyways. The value of the information is in knowing whether specific cards from that archetype are among their holdings.

Has anybody played any of those other deck-based card games? I saw some in a board game shop in Utrecht yesterday (I think Game of Thrones, LOTR, a Cthulu one), but wasn't sure if they were any good.

For me it feels a bit analogous to like... cubing with a random pile of cards vs. cubing with a tailored list. Like in the beginning, my cube was just a box of borrowed cards, but the result of this is that the drafted decks were not as rich with interactions. It tended towards "good stuff"...
