    Article [M14] Archangel of Thune

I think she is the superior 5 mana lifegain angel. Much like CML implies in the article, Baneslayer Angel basically comes off as a bad joke. Simply pushing a beater by giving it 3 keywords on top of a solid body is boring, particularly on a high end card and PARTICULARLY in white that already...

General A Thought About Two Player Drafting

As anyone who has done two player drafting knows, it comes with baggage. Recently inspired by conversations on gold cards and card classification, I had an epiphany. Two player stacks should be ridiculously oversaturated with fixing and multicolor cards. We want players to be competing...

Sounds legit. I hope they talk about lightning bolt soon, I've been dying to hear how it plays.

    Card/Deck Fencing Ace

I don't see why not. It trades one mana of upfront cost for colorlessness and re-usability. Your cube should have to be extraordinarily fast for this card to not be relevant. Now, Empyrial Armor often plays out as "have removal or I win with this shadow dude/flier" so you certainly could...

    Article ChannelFireball: Declassified Information

So, now that this giant cube mistake has been addressed, who is going to tackle the other big one? "Card X exists, therefore I can't play Card Y." I see this one all the time and it makes me cry. The cube is a limited environment. The only thing that matters to a card in the cube is the...

    Article ChannelFireball: Dragon's Maze Review

I had Armed // Dangerous in my last draft. No one ended up in Red/Green and the Red/White midrange deck that took it kept it in the sideboard. I think it might be a good card. The red side really can put out quality damage if you have something they can't block. Something like bloodlust...

    Card/Deck Fencing Ace

I run Gift of Orzhova! There is not much to say about it. Its a high impact enchant creature with no safety net mechanic. It puts tremendous pressure on the opponent, but if the creature it is on is removed before it had a chance to do some work, you are at a huge disadvantage. I know...

    General Random White Card Slot

I was just thinking, "What about Reverse Damage?" I mean, that card itself is a little weak, but maybe they made something like it afterwards that I totally missed that isn't too bad.. Well, the gatherer search didn't turn up much. I got Samite Ministration which has an annoying color clause...

    General Random White Card Slot

Hi! I already run harm's way. I liked mana tithe, but my playgroup feels it isn't a white card, so we don't run it. Blue is easily our least played color and force spike is one of our favorite blue cards, so really, I understand wanting to keep that effect blue. Is shining shoal good...

General I actually played magic this weekend.

Force of Will is probably worth running. Its a fun card, it just had a bad run for us. Yesterday was redemption. Being able to completely shut off the opponent's tempo is worth a card and a life. I remembered my last two cards: Gravecrawler and Silverblade Paladin.

    General Random White Card Slot

So, yesterday I slotted in Riot Control in the cube. It was drafted and main decked. Its impact was "usefulish". The potential upside to this card (blocking direct damage, killing attackers while fogging other attackers) never came up. Basically, it played like a 3 mana respite and that...

General I actually played magic this weekend.

I actually got to play Magic yesterday. Here are some observations I found. Since I hadn't played any Dragon Maze yet, we forced all the cards from that set into the draft. This was a 4 player table, which is the usual for my group. 1) Recently, I had been thinking that Force of Will is a bad...

    Eldrazi Domain Cube

This makes me think about game preference. I enjoy games that are opaque. I think feeling hopeless, helpless and lost on your first play is a good thing. I think good play should require you to destroy some preconceived notions and require you to perceive things in a new way. I think the...

General Original Draft Formats, Custom Sets, etc

Long story short: there is a battle over whether the term cube refers to a specific activity (the design, maintenance and playing of draft sets customized for a specific purpose) or a specific format of Magic. Mr. Taylor eloquently and passionately described where I (and probably most other...

    Sets [MCD] M14 previews

I guess I'm the only one who likes the mythic angel? I always thought that Baneslayer was a little bit over the line, plus the new angel is a (potential) anthem which is always welcome in white. It seems like the exact card I want.

General A neat idea for testing...

I don't know, I'm still happily rocking over 200 old border cards in my cube and there are a ton more I don't run for that are certainly powerful cards (moxes, abur duals, ancestral, balance, demonic tutor, etc.). I think they are doing a good job.

General A neat idea for testing...

This is very true. The "raw power" standard seems markedly absurd: a card could always have bigger numbers, more keywords, lower casting cost or fewer restrictions. Striving for a higher powerful is an endless and empty goal, because you can always go "one higher". The goal shouldn't be to...

    Android: Netrunner Full Review

Precognition is a pretty poorly positioned card in the current state of Netrunner. Besides (extremely temporarily) protecting RD and knowing your next few draws, it doesn't really do much. There just aren't effects in the game that utilize your R&D's order or profitably shuffles your library...
