That's probably a bit more hassle than I like. Who gets the 15th card for example, and how are we going to remember which booster it was in? I'll test out the above five first and will go from there :)
Yeah, in a closed environment where colorless mana is scarce that could work as well. For constructed purposes I would put it at only {G}, because I don't think you want that effect at {3}{G}.
I like your planeswalker, but I feel the -1 is at odds with the other two abilities.
Ok, I'm testing the following five and will do a first evaluation after next weekend's draft.
Ajani's Pridemate
Cloudfin Raptor
Grim Guardian
Young Pyromancer
Life from the Loam
@CML: I expect Grim Guardian to be a pretty decent card in my cube. I push an enchantment theme in {g}{w}{b}, with...
I have even less to offer, as my cube is less than a year old now. After my first ever cube draft I was hooked and knew I wanted my own cube. Pretty soon I found out my ideas about cube assembly didn't align well with the vocal majority and I stumbled upon this site. The departure from power-max...
Yes! Exactly that! :) It's pretty difficult to think of other interesting options that interact as awesomely with the basic ability though.
War Mammoth Assault {3}{G}
Sorcery
If {R/W} was spent to cast War Mammoth Assault, put two 1/1 red and white Soldier creature tokens onto the battlefield...
It probably reads better when it's on a card. But you could word it alternatively. I really like the different modes that both make the base effect much stronger.
If {u/r} was spent to cast Dark Desires, untap target creature and gain control of it until end of turn. That creature gains haste...
I had a vision tonight...
Dark Desires {3}{B}
Sorcery
If you spent {U/R} to cast Dark Desires, untap target creature and gain control of it until end of turn. That creature gains haste until end of turn.
Target player sacrifices a creature. If you spent only {B} to cast Dark Desires, return...
The end goal is a cube that is a pleasure to draft and play with. A strong overal design goal isn't necessarily conducive to that goal. One need only look at the myriad of tribal cubes that have a strong theme, but often weak play since a tribes, for the most part, don't overlap.
I think a...
Eight power for five mana across four bodies. Twice.
Well, the second time it costs more, but really, that's on par with Wolfir Silverhart's power to mana ratio.
People! Please stop posting negative comments and give Lucre some time to address the constructive replies! :p
Nah. You're thinking of set design. Cube design doesn't need as much of an identity. It can have one of course, but mechanics can be more insular. As long as they interact with some of...
You are completely missing his point here, which is that drafter will end up with only 1 or 2 Bookmark cards in their deck, and remembering those should not be a problem. Not knowing the Bookmark cards in a cube is no more of a problem than not knowing other cards in the cube.
I agree that it's...
Yeah, I can see that. I might change my mind over time. It does make the Firedrinker a higher pick, precisely because you get two cards for the price of one.
Sorry, I was totally evaluating it's merits as an ability that has to see print. I still really don't like the mechanic from that point of view. I agree though that in a cube you have much, much more control over your draft environment. One Bookmark card per color stapled onto a basic effect is...
Keep in mind that handing out multiple guildgates will ensure control/midrange strategies are naturally stronger in your environment, as the enters the battlefield tapped clause sucks in aggro decks. Artifact fixing of the 2-/3-mana variety likewise promotes control/midrange strategies.
Buyback is the ultimate "returning" mechanic of course. Oh wait, returning returning mechanics you say... :)
Uh... I love flashback, entwine, proliferate, ninjutsu, provoke, overload, channel, cycling, splice onto (anything but arcane plzthnx)
Blue aggro is kind of at odds with the color's philosophy. The building blocks are there, but it takes so much space away from traditional control strategies that I also want to support. Cloudfin Raptor is the most interesting of the blue one-drops for me (took me a while to realize this)...
