72-card Pocket Cube

72-card Pocket Cube
a cube to carry with you

Minimum Deck Size = 0
No other rules changes (including milling out!)

Why?
I mostly play cube with 2 player, often during lunch with a colleague. Portability is everything for me. So, could a cube fit in a commander deckbox? With a small enough deck size, the amount of cards drafted reduces too. Goals for this cube:
  • made for 2 / 4 players
  • playable in 40 minutes
  • no need for counters
  • fair but quick gameplay

Tempo

Small decks cause quick games. The quickest of decks should kill before their cards run out, either through damage or milling their opponent out.

Control

Inevitability. However, if you want to drag the game out you need mill prevention. Control should always win the boardstall.

One-card Archetypes

Small decks virtually guarantee you draw every card, eve more so than 60-card constructed decks. Some of the additions should single-handidly unlock a new archetype. Everything to enable that sweet replayability.

Did I set up a contest only to get more inspiration for this cube? Maybe
Would I appreciate some fresh eyes on the cube list? Certainly
I'm sure I've missed some fun gimmicks with this :)

I've played the cube 6 times now, so time for initial impressions: Small decks sizes feel like flirting with death. Life and deck size prove to be comparable clocks. Omens crucially prevent milling yourself out, but their dragon did actually win games. I was afraid they'd result in repeatable play patterns. So far they haven't. Attrition won the most games. I should remember to log the decklist, but I'd say 4/6 games were won in the long game (often on the back of omens). Fast decks mainly won through Rancor, which is especially powerful when combined with Seasoned Hallowblade.

Types of decks seen:
There's a lot of potential here, considering only 60% of the cards saw play. I want to give a bump to faster low-to-the-ground decks. My card vendor is currently on holiday, so the big changes will have to wait. The hype is real though!
