General CubeCon 2020 announcement

Hey everyone, on behalf of the MTG CubeCon Committee, I would like to introduce you to CubeCon, a three day Magic: the Gathering event dedicated to Cube!

Full details of the event are available on our website, https://mtgcubecon.com, but here’s a brief synopsis of what’s to come!

It is important to us to have a varied selection of cube environments, thereby honoring some of the many things that our format represents. We feature Cubes that range from unpowered Vintage (mine! https://cubecobra.com/c/culticcube) to Pauper; we have block Cubes, themed Cubes, and even an Un-Cube.

Point leaders from the 70 draft pods will go on to a Top 8 draft at the end of the third day. Rest assured, there will be prizes and swag aplenty for everyone, including playmats and CubeCon branded dice. With $1,000 in prizes for the draft pods and another $1,000 for the Top 8 drafts, our goal is to make this event for and about our awesome community. We want everyone to have a blast meeting friends old and new, playing exotic Cubes, and enjoying high-level discussions.

This amazing event is taking place at Misty Mountain Games (https://www.facebook.com/MistyMountainMadison/) in beautiful Madison, Wisconsin over Memorial Day Weekend (May 23-25, 2020), giving us a three day weekend of nonstop cubing! There are 10 unique Cubes featured in the tournament, and we have 7 draft times scheduled, when each of the ten cubes will fire. Your entry fee gives you access to 5 Cube draft tickets, so you can sample a wide variety of Cubes. Our tournament structure affords competitors some time to hang out, play in side events, and explore the local area.

For our first CubeCon, we only have *112 seats available*, so if you’re interested, sign up today! If you’re not able to make it, but want to enjoy the Cube-goodness, we have you covered! CubeCon will be broadcast LIVE on Twitch at https://twitch.tv/teamjbro!

The Community Cube slot gives Cube curators who will be attending the event the chance to add their Cube to the select group of ten to be featured at the inaugural CubeCon! Once you’re signed up, tell us why your Cube should be featured (https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLScKqpDNjXfxP1GiUekK4Jbvh2d1DXI4eLw7aj_ZglLj22rkmw/viewform)!

**PS**: On Friday night prior to CubeCon’s official start on Saturday, head over to [Misty Mountain Games](https://www.facebook.com/MistyMountainMadison/) to get your Cube fix in a day early!

**TLDR: #CubeCon. Madison, Wisconsin. May 23-25, 2020. $105 entrance fee. Playmats, dice, and store credit for everyone. https://mtgcubecon.com. 112 seats available. We hope to see you there!**

Thanks for the love, cats! Sorry we've an ocean between us. I'm super excited about the event. It's the sort of event that I've long dreamed of!

I fail to see how three days of nonstop cubing can be anything other than completely amazing, so I can imagine how you're feeling :D

Also, are any people from WotC going to be attending? Will there be cubes with custom cards? Can't probably say yes to both, right?

Well, there's the rub. We are still negotiating with WotC concerning what sort of support they will provide, but it looks likely that they'll help out in some way, but giving up sealed product (mystery boosters, for instance) for side events or for prizes. We also have one high-profile current WotC employee who is "85%" likely to come, but who has asked that we not mention him until he is confirmed. So as you intimate, a requirement of WotC participation at any level at all is that there by nothing but real, live Magic cards featured. This also means that we can't run a powered cube, as we just don't want anyone to put their power on the line. We have some security measures in place, and I am a sunnily optimistic fellow who won't believe anything bad of my tribe of cubers, but I also don't want anyone to risk damage or disappearance of a Lotus.

Oof... Yeah, that's too bad. Maybe WotC could help out there? I mean, not that I think powered cubes are better, but they definitely are a big part of the general appeal of the format, and the MtGO Vintage Cube is one of the most famous cubes.
