Sets [EOE] Edge of Eternities

I think I usually want Bitter Reunion over this (harder card type for delirium/goyfs, more relevant activation in the decks doing filthy things), but that's not me saying this isn't nice. Just that I want to do the filthy things instead of the grindy ones.

I have fond memories of Chained to the Rocks, and even though this is worse, even ward 1 goes a long way (it's no Sheltered by Ghosts, but heck, what is?)

okay putting Warp on half a Doubling Season is clever

eat shit, Crowned Ceratok
(the single Magic Discord server I'm in absolutely loves to tell things to "eat shit" during spoiler season, we get a lot fewer "eat steak" which is the opposite but we still do get 'em sometimes)

Some cool stuff from the stream today:

The play patterns from this card are interesting if you're running the Champion of the Parish humans package. Warping this into play on T2 grows the Champ to a sizable 3/3 right away. Casting it again bumps you up all the way to 5 power on T3 with some minor wrath insurance. If you follow it up with Thalia's Lieutenant that's an absolutely disgusting curve out for a W/x Aggro deck. Branch out into black sticking counters on the likes of Bloodsoaked Champion for suicide charges trading up or Cecil, Dark Knight creating tough blocking decisions and there's a lot of exciting gameplay to generate.

I've been playing Siege Veteran for a few years now and I've liked it as a lesser Luminarch Aspirant, but this enables so many more lines of play and interesting synergies. 3 CMC puts it in the sweet spot for Collected Company, Sun Titan recursion, curving into either Thassa, Deep-Dwelling or Teleportation Circle, and finally is a target for Sevinne's Reclamation or the newly spoiled Scout for Survivors. This looks like an awesome glue card.

It also has 2 toughness, which means you can Recruiter of the Guard for it! It's the perfect printed size to work with almost everything.

Flightless angels…

At least it doesn’t look like an Angel. At all. So there shouldn’t be too much confusion I would guess?

(I do wonder if this is a trend, because they've talked about how hard it is to make 1-2 mana Angels before because they all demand flying and so on)

I honestly don’t think Wizards has a valid argument here. Then they just shouldn’t be Angels. Why even make them Angels when they could just be Clerics or Soldiers or whatever? The reason why you’d want something to be Angels is because you’d want the cards to have Angel traits like almost always have flying (bare some rare case of an Angel who has been cursed, who has its wing cut off or who is seriously wounded) and other traits like being most often white and good and holy etc. If you don’t want those traits then they aren’t Angels but Clerics or whatever.

I don't remember if this card has been brought up, but I'm intrigued by:

Pairs well with your removal spells to clear blockers and force through damage (4 is a lot!), will likely be a 2-for-1 in most scenarios either crashing through the board or taking targeted removal + a second card, and has relevant human typing. Probably gets worse as the game progresses, but dropping this on T2 and following up with ways to keep the board simplified seems pretty gross.

Yeah, I was just about to point this one out! Feels like it might be have been able to be an instant, but that's a really nice roleplayer. Also more cantrips are always welcome.

They are Angels because the Commander players need more 1/2-drops in their Angel tribal deck, that's all

Yeah but then they just shouldn’t be Angels :p

Two points:
1. The players who pick up an Angel commander shouldn’t expect to suddenly see low drop Angel creatures printed for their deck.
2. Wizards shouldn’t give in to the players who desire low drop Angel creatures.

...this really is "the Stuffy Doll set", huh? Wild.

Noteworthy to me and nobody else: this says "draw another card", a phrase which previously has been on exactly two commander cards and one un-card. (good luck getting that card tag to work properly, self) Wonder if that'll be the standard going forward?

I always love a good "this goes infinite too easily". Even if this had said "nontoken" it couldn't drop the "once per turn" imo.

I mean, it’s not that much better than Night’s Whisper if you can trigger the void.
I don't actually know how much better "surveil 1, then draw 2" is than "draw 2", but I think it's a fair amount? Losing 1 life instead of 2 is whatever, but the surveil makes it like draw 2.5 most of the time, since you usually either actively want land or actively want nonland, right?

What a sweet little robot! This is great if you support artifacts in any way in your cube. A little bit like Tough Cookies little brother. It applies some pressure early, can block pesky fliers early and late but mostly trades off, which I like. In my cube I'm always looking for creatures with reach that fit well and are not too obnoxious.

As it always though, a new mechanic/token will make it into my cube, because there are always 1-2 perfect fits that I cannot resist. Oh well.

Don't forget Guiding Voice if you want to be doing that! Everyone gets so focused on Learning a Lesson that they forget it can just be a rummage. (I was briefly playing Feather, the Redeemed on Arena.)

Yes! I love this card, but even as a fellow Synergy Sicko(TM) I have to admit that rummaging isn't quite as good as straight-up drawing a card, and Guiding Voice just isn't quite powerful enough in most cases.
