Card/Deck Green 5-drops

I realize Genesis if probably slow for a lot of cubes here, but to me that is the coolest green 5 drop ever printed. I love that thing and would never cut it. If my cube got too fast to run it, I would cut 50 other cards to slow the cube down so he was still awesome. That's how much I like Genesis.

I sort of like the band too, but I don't think that is why I like the Magic card. I don't think anyway.

Yeah that got cut to try out other things, but I need to bring it back. I should buy a foil or alter or something so I'll feel worse about cutting it. Is that thing even available in foil?

Yeah, original foil is like $22+, there's a Judge one you can get for around $14ish.

Maybe we can look at green 5s by how they make you feel if you are winning / losing when you play them. I'd also think considering what they've meant to you if you've cast them against a "go under" or "go big" or control matchup if they don't immediately win you the game.

Ideally we'd be able to cross that against which decks would actually be interested in these green 5s.

That's a good idea actually. I'll take a stab.

Genesis - if I'm casting it, I made a mistake in my deck building or I didn't get an optimal draw. If I'm ahead, I don't care. If I'm losing, I probably try very hard to get him killed so I can get back shriekmaw on my next turn.

Deranged hermit - I only feel good if I have a way to abuse him. Otherwise I feel bad regardless of the game state (but maybe less bad if my 4 squirrels can kill something or fog me a turn).

Thragtusk - I just feel bad playing it regardless of the game state because it's pure value and it basically shits on any advantage my opponent may have worked towards with my life total and/or board control. It's less feel bad than wurmcoil or grave titan, but actually more if I have rest angel or some other blink engine. I hate this card in case that wasn't clear.

Acidic slime - Not super happy if all I blow up is a land, unless it's a really sweet land. If this didn't have deathtouch, I would not play it. Speaking of which, I feel like this card is better when you are behind because it stalls so well. Unless I have a sword or something (or I'm blowing up my opponent's sword), dropping this on an empty board is like the worst 5 mana green creature I can play IMO. When I dropped back down to 360, this guy got cut actually.

Wolfir Silverheart - this guys is so swingy. I'm never unhappy playing it because this card is just really powerful. But soulbond is a risky mechanic because a removal spell and you lose it. I've seen just as many games decided by a 4/5 bird of paradise and 8/8 silverheart as I have a doom bladed silver heart and a suicidal 0/1 bird. And I like that actually. Some cards should have huge risk reward and I think this guy hits a sweet spot (unlike silverblade who I used to love but who has recently pissed me off with his hit and miss inconsistency - it's much easier to deal with a 2/2 than a 4/4 is the problem I think).

Vorapede - great on defense and offense. He's just a big dumb beater, but I love this guy honestly. I don't like vigilance on him because that feels like a white ability to me, but otherwise this is a very green creature that I'm never unhappy playing. Undying is really powerful on something this beefcake. It goes in pretty much any deck that can cast him and being triple green means you get rewarded for going heavy in the color (I want to have cards like that in my cube). He's one of my favorite green 5's now. I didn't always used to play him but glad I added him.

Onderzeeboot

Ecstatic Orb
Silklash Spider - Suit up buddy! Ok, I'm not taking any damage from that fatty anymore, and any flyers will die next turn! Now all I want to draw is Doran!

Grizzly Fate - Without threshold I'll only be happy if I can block some things profitably. Though I can always flash it back later for value. With threshold though? Good lord, the value!

I still like overrun for what it's worth. Obviously it's utter shit when you are losing, but in multi-player it's the fucking bomb since you almost always end up with a bunch of dudes in a stalled board state and this thing turns tables in a flash (errr.. without being instant).
