Idk, I personally find Bob to be a lot more interesting than Goblin Guide. I mean he's obviously best in aggro, but he's a Human and a Wizard, has synergies with a top deck manipulation theme, provides a payoff for a life-gain theme... He's one of those creatures that is generically good, but in a deep way (as opposed to something like Grave Titan that's generically good in a shallow way).
Also, with a Riptide curve, the argument can be made to run him in even a control deck. I know I would. You can always swap out your 3rd and 4th big fat finishers for an X spell or a manland and still win just as inevitably.
