So this is a buddy of mine in real life. He wanted to give the cube a go and this is what we ended up with.
I focussed on black and ended up in my usual GB grindy big mana deck with a blue splash:

This was my opponents deck. He was heavy green early and had a decent amount of prowess guys and ended up as a sort of voltron/splicer deck:

He has only really played in SOM/INN/RTR standards so he had to get used to some of the cards. His use of MTGO was was also a learning experience, nearly taking the entire 25 minutes on his clock for each game. By the end he managed to get used to it and seemed keen to draft again some other time.

M1G1: I drop a Porcelain Legionnaire who continually beats in until a Hooting Mandrills comes down to stop the assault. I get stuck on 4 lands and keep drawing all my 6+ spells and then get to this board state:

So I block the mandrills let first strike damage go through then Crypt Rats for 3 wipingthe board and knocking Atlas to 1. He then drops Maul Splicer :eek:
I drop a Gurmag Angler and block one of the golem tokens that swing in. Then a Mistfire Adeptcomes to the party :/ I manage to rip my sixth land to drop Skeletal Vampire. He gets to Repeal one of my bats and swing in, but I have enough life to take it and swing back with the two flyers.

This game could have been much different if he was more MTGO efficient. He wasn't sure how to Ninjutsu his Scryb Sprite on turn 3, he also didn't time his Pestermite correctly to untap his Hooting Mandrills to ambush my attacking Porcelain Legionnaire. It was all a learning experience.

M1G2:
The newness would continue with a turn 1 bounceland :\
I just passed my turn to give him a chance for his mistake. I then play Zulaport Cutthroat into Galvanic Juggernaut while my opponent plays Troll Ascetic. I try and Consuming Vapors the Troll away, but a Scryb Sprite flashes in the take the sacrifice. A Reclamation Sage then comes to blow up the Juggernaut and die to the rebounded vapors. So I cast a Gurmag Angler and pass. He suits up his Troll with an Elephant Guide :O
Then decides to swing in, which seemed strange due to the life totals of 12(him)/20(me) at this point. I take it plus a Sylvan Might to also be on 12. I drop the Skeletal Vampire and all he can do is repeal a token and die to my army next turn.

Vampire too stronk.

M2G1: I cycle then Dread Return a Krosan Tusker, which is swiftly met by a Vital Splicer and a Moldervine Cloak on the Token. We both beat each other down and he follows up with a Mistfire Adept and decides to sit back. I can only drop Magus of the Candelabra due to my strain on black at the moment and pass. A Maul Splicer decides to come down and I am looking at a grim situation.
I get to go nuts with Magus and bounce lands to get a Stroke of Genius for 6. I then untap, get every piece of mana I can and see what I can do:

I Consuming Vapors first, which kills the Vital Splicer. I then Ghastly Demise the Mistfire Adept, only to have Noxious Revival come to give it prowess, fizzle the spell and put the splicer back on top of his library. So I just drop the Oona's Prowler and the Legionnaire and pass.
He recasts the splicer, then attacks with all the golems I block the the Legionnaire (First Strike + Regen = No Damage) and the big one with the tusker to mitigate the damage. I can then cast Artisan of Kozilek to get the Tusker back and still look like I have a chance until:

o_O Yeah, well, it happens.

M2G2:
Nothing happens until turn 4 when Atlas drops the Vital Splicer on Turn 4. I drop Thrashing Wumpus, Kessig Cage Breakers, Skeletal Vampire while he just keeps suiting up the golem with Elephant Guide and Bone Splitter. By the time he gets another creature or bounce my board is too large and dies to an alpha swing.

M2G3:
I keep a two land hand, and stupidly keep the two-drop on top with my scryland and don't hit my third land drop when the voltron deck does its thing:

I thought it was supposed to be a speed bump o_O
I try and hold on my my regenerator, but it is quickly followed by a Vital Splicer and the Bonesplitter goes over to the Golem and I still can't draw my 4th land.

MVPs

The splicers are what made his deck tick. I am so glad that he didn't pick the Wing Splicer as I may have been in way more trouble. Having 3/3 trampling regenerators with +3/+3 enchantments was really scary. Needed more spot removal as splicers also interact poorly with edicts :\
Skeletal Vampire is still nuts. Won every game it came down.
Crypt Rats is still a sweet sweeper, especially with the Cuttroat out. The thing I have now noticed that it doesn't work as well with Thrashing Wumpus as it will just die with the first activation, unlike the rats where it will die with everything else. My early game was really lacking, which is why these probably pulled more weight then they should have.

My deck should have culled some of the top end. I got green-screwed too often and never hit 6 mana quickly enough. More thoughts on deckbuilding for next time.

Nice, I was wondering who atlaspud was.

A few things, since safra asked about this card.



it was a little awkward commenting in chat, but mistfire is a good card, just a bit clunky.

It takes a little bit of work to get it into position, but it can generate some serious damage out of nowhere by granting evasion to whatever random giant beater happens to be around.

I really liked his deck, and it was a pretty decent example of how a U/G deck is supposed to function, where its basically just jamming with suited up evasive monsters, and trying to disrupt the opponent with counters or bounce. Elephant guide and moldervine cloak are no joke in those decks.

I'm guessing you're missing skeletal's older, weaker, place holder
