General "Looking for a card"-Thread

I'm looking for another 1 or 2-drop creature in red that helps me discard more cards to support Marauding Mako, Ivora, Insatiable Heir, and Hobgoblin, Mantled Marauder.

Anything cool I'm missing or forgetting about?
Oh no it's the alchemy demon on your shoulder again.

It's really just the perfect card for Mako, Ivora, Inti & friends. Removing seek definitely makes it wordy though. I've been thinking of shortening it to 'reveal ... until you reveal a card with equal mana value' even though that's not proper rules speak.

In the 1-drop slot there's also Masked Meower and Insolent Neonate, but neither really spark joy. One day we'll get a good card with the discard, sac, draw activated ability - which I do like for synergy purposes.

For 2-drops Party Thrasher is definitely my favorite, but it's wordy and carries the mark of the beast. The gremlin is a close runner up, with the detective being a little more hit or miss.

Bloodrager Brawler is definitely my vote as well. Clean, powerful, and it actually has a downside if you're not building around it!

Rarely an actual 2 drop (but it's possible!) this card can be real gas for discard archetypes.

I've tried this a few times in the past and no one ever picks it. I think it might be better situated in my Cube now (i.e. better), which I would be jazzed for. The lack of control it offers is troubling, but not impossible to work around.

Does this count? Because it’s pretty great at repeated discard.

Fear of missing out hasn’t been mentioned but isnup there in terms of power level.

I don't want to use an Izzet slot for it, but I'd be more than happy to play it in both mono red and mono blue. I think I'll just throw it in guild balance be damned; it is exactly what I'm looking for.

If the power level is not too low, you may also consider

It is not repeatable, but a 4/3 for two mana is very big, and it is also a very clean (=not wordy) card

This card was a favorite of mine and I used to be very vocal on MTGS about how underrated it was....maybe he can have a second chance at life.

Thanks all!!

What is are the coolest RAV-block gold cards of each guild?

I would like to add a little more og ravnica to my main cube. Yes, I do have a ravnica cube, but as a father there is less time for cubing and most of the time I just try to get as much CCC gameplay as I can. And since I moved all gold cards to occasionals, I have more room. So just let me know, what are you're favorite gold cards for each guild from the coolest block, RAV-GPT-DIS? Preferably, give me one for each color pair.

Entirely on an emotional level, I make no assertion about their gameplay quality. Most iffy on Rakdos, I kind of want to put Rix Maadi there.

I included hybrids if I thought they were cooler, but I wasn’t sure if they counted in your books so I added a gold card too in case.

A lot of my picks are big creatures, I just find them cool :D

The Guildmages are also fun and iconic besides probably simic guildmage, man that card is weak.

I also have a sweet spot for

But it usually boils down to. Choose one: Creatures don't attack this turn OR Creatures don't block this turn
The original Putrefy and Mortify have sick art too, but it's kind of a waste for a guild slot. Also hard to go wrong with

Thanks for the input guys, you made me consider some cards I might not have considered otherwise. Here's what I am at right now.

Azorius is between two cards for me. While Grand Arbiter Augustin IV is cool, I think he's only my third favorite. For me it is between Sky Hussar and Isperia, the Inscrutable. Sky Hussar would suit my cube very well, but Isperia made me build an Azorius deck in middle school.

Dimir is easy. While Szadek, Lord of Secrets will always be my bro (first legend I owned back when legendary was special), it was Glimpse the Unthinkable that blew me away when I opened it in a booster 20 years ago. It also should have legs in my cube, either as a all-in selfmill enabler or as a gameplan with spell recursion.

Rakdos is easy too. I should've been cubing Rakdos the Defiler already. Huge fliers are strong and often can survive to attack at least once. This version of Rakdos does not only have the coolest art, it also should be a great reanimator target, since it also let's people sac lands.

Gruul will probably get Rumbling Slum. I remember reading about it in some magazine, but it doesn't seem as exciting today. I might reconsider this and don't change anything for gruul.

I like many cards in Selesnya, including all suggestions here. But how did I not think of Watchwolf? I know it feels like a mediocre common to today's kids but I will always be happy to pick this and force Selesnya aggro.

Oh dear, of course, Angel of Despair is one of the coolest magic cards ever and I need it here. Ghost Council is cool too but somehow feels less "legendary" than the Creature — Angel.

Golgari is difficult. Putrefy bores me and Gleancrawler is hybrid. I would probably play Vulturous Zombie, it would be strong, but I don't like it more than any golgari card I run. I think I'll pass here, I am already running a bunch of monocolored dredge cards from this set obviously in the core.

Simic is even more difficult. I don't do the counters stuff, so Coiling Oracle is the only card that would be an option. But I don't love it and I have pretty cool simic cards too. I might just pass on simic as well.

Izzet is a no-brainer. Or should I say a big-brainer? Niv-Mizzet, the Firemind should actually be good in my cube and it's such an iconic card.

Boros is also difficult. Firemane Angel is cool, but would it see play in the CCC? I might actually pick the super iconic youtube star Lightning Helix, that works best with boros prowess too.

This was more fun and harder than I expected. this was my first block and I have so many fond memories of these cards, and, having originally made my Cube before gold cards were a regular occurrence, many of these (and more!) were founding members of what is now my Cube.

Rumbling Slum was the first rare I ever opened, and it's no wonder I'm still obsessed with this game all these years later.

Skipping {W/B}, {B/G}, and {R/W} because none of the options speak to me an emotional level:

(It bugs me a bit that it's showing the Ravnica Remastered version of Selesnya Evangel.)
