General Modern Masters 2015

Honestly, as disappointed as some people are in the reprints, I'm actually positive about the way the draft format looks. This is just at face value, but there seems to be some ideas in there that I've seen in cubes on this board, in the lower power department, so hopefully it'll be nice to see how ideas we've talked about look when played by a lot of people, people in tournaments with high stakes included.

What would it be like to draft KTK, INN, and ROE as an actual draft? You know, one pack per set. 3 packs total. 8 man draft. Winner gets tickets to see Jurassic World.

It'd kinda be like starting to draft an archetype, then being presented with incompatible archetypes in pack 2, and then giving up and drafting BREAD in pack 3.

So...fun new discussion. If you had to choose three sets that aren't core sets to draft one pack of each from the Modern pool, what would you choose?

So the actual archetypes in MM and their linchpin commons seems to be:

UW - Artifacts/Metalcraft
UB - Proliferate
BR - Bloodthirst
RG - Domain Ramp
GW - Tokens
WB - Spirits
BG - Sacrifice (For value!)
GU - Graft
UR - Elementals
RW - Doublestrike

Quite impressed at how the limited environment seems to shape up. A decent amount of overlap between most of the commons for the different archetypes.

Also, having

in the same set is so aesthetically pleasing.

Seems like a decent Limited environment, but the set is pretty garbage. I was really hoping to pick up some of the more expensive commons/uncommons (wtf Serum Visions) but they've held back on quite a few. I'd really hate to be the guy who ends up opening jank rares after paying $40ish for a draft. Just gross.

Hey, I can't wait to spend 40 to draft, wreck every sad excuse of a player up at my LGS, only to see the 12 year old girl get the goyf and actually know its value too well thanks to smartphones. Then in my 1st place prize packs (which will MAYBE be 6 packs of MM2) I can maybe pull a primeval titan or a mox and pat myself on the back for drafting good enough to get boned by the fortune of luck that worked out for the silly bitch over me.

Tis the sweet life.

Time and time again I get to realise the fact that LGS's not running pick draft is the norm. To me having to choose between picking a card to draft and a card worth money just seems bizarre, but that's the way people seem to roll? Or is it a special MM15 thing?

Is it a Swedish thing to have a rare draft after the draft is done? I'm surprised as well that rare drafting during the draft seems to be the norm, seems like it makes for less exciting games.

I've never seen anything but "keep what you pick" with my own eyes.

This style serves to make drafting more accessible to new people- even if they don't do well, they get to keep their lucky opens. I use that line of reasoning to convince never-drafted-befores to try it out. One of my many local stores has a $9 (the exact price of 3 packs) draft with a crap payout (one pack per round won) but hey, it's cheap and you get to play! The number of people who decline drafting, buy three plus packs from the store and just hang around for a few hours is kind of absurd.

This set is awesome. I loaded it in to MtG Forge (including a very rough draft pick order) and did some drafts. Just now I built a B/G Eldrazi deck that beat Precursor Golem, Scute Mob, Ulamog's Crusher and more, by producing a blocker for the Scute Mob with Creakwood Liege each turn, which also pumped up the rest of my team just enough to be safe from Golem attacks. Eventually I won before decking, because he had to kill my Kozilek, which shuffled back my library, but by then I had enough mana to search it up again with the Eye of Ugin.

I think I drafted every color, so many interactions. I actually won a few games with a GU deck featuring double Inexorable Tide splashing black for two Shadowmage Infiltrators. Graft a counter on the infiltrator and go to town by proliferating it each turn. Sweeeeeeeeet!

Here's for hoping on oodles of hard data after people draft a lot. I've heard (albeit in condescending tone) rumors the set is based on one of Nagels old cubes?

Wherever I've played we've always redrafted the rares (sometimes valuable foils too). The exceptions have been side drafts at GPs, prereleases, whatnot.

The removal they bumped to uncommon seems so wild to me.
Like anyone that drafted ravnica knows pillory is not a savage twister quality card lol

it's probably less about that and more that this isn't a gold-themed set, just a "regular" set as far as colour balance goes. so all gold cards are uncommon or higher, cause the only thing worse than a set with little fixing is a set with little fixing and the same multicolour cards wheeling for the tenth time

have no fear, though, arrest is at common

its weird in a set so heavily archetyped as this one a lot of the monocoloured cards have the same feel as multicoloured ones? Does that make any sense to anyone else?

{R/W} Artifact Aggro is a thing. A pretty powerful thing.

Notice only Bloodshot Trainee, Darksteel Axe and Dispatch are uncommons on MM2015, the rest are commons this time around.
