A few thoughts on the draft, in list format so I don't ramble as much:
  1. Overall Safra's cube is really fun
  2. Looking at her list on CT yesterday, I was struck by the fact that the power band seemed a bit wide. That said, I didn't really feel this much in the games themselves.*
  3. I was hating on Heartwood Storyteller when I browsed the list, but I ended up drafting around it and really dig the archetype, even though I generally dislike GW decks. I'll look to include this archetype once I fix the fact that spell decks can't win in my cube.
  4. Drafting with a bunch of fellow designers is a really fun experience and something I'd like to do more of. It feels like you can learn a lot more about formats this way; both the one you're playing and about your own.
  5. I'm surprised at the number of 3+ color decks that were drafted
  6. MODO is really hard. If you haven't played much online, I'd suggest getting with someone beforehand for some practice games just to learn how to do stuff like stops, priority, and managing the stack. One of my games went to time because I was so slow with the interface.
  7. Deckbuilding is a pain in the ass right now because of card versioning. If somebody can get me an export of the collection on the RL account, I'll take a crack at writing a website that will consume draft lists and spit out lists compatible with the modo collection. No promises as I have a busy weekend ahead of me already.
  8. Everyone was super nice and I really enjoyed spending the afternoon with you guys.
  9. How the heck do I decklist? I couldn't get mine to look right using tags so I just posted the modo image.
  10. BIG thanks to Safra for coordinating the draft. I know it's a ton of work and that you spend a good chunk of $ getting stuff together for us.

* Examples of #2 are things like Icatian Javelineers / Mother of Runes or the difference between slow and fast decks Elspeth, Sun's Champion / Kird Ape Although I stand by my comments about slow/fast decks, I did do just fine with my fast GW deck.

Hey Skrap, PM me with what you need (and I guess your email address). I'll try to ship it over today.

There's a sticky post on this forum that explains decklists, but I think the screenshot you used is also perfectly acceptable.

Sent. And, ugh, noted. It's been years since I read the sticky. I think I had it right it just showed up super weird in preview mode (it was a very long column of single card images in preview)

So a couple of things:
  • Sorry I wasn't at the draft. I was awake and ready, I just don't know how to Skype. Plus no one messaged me, so assumed it was all fine.
  • I have an old webhost I don't really use anymore, so I will also try and do the same Skrap is doing by making a convertor to pass a text file through and fix up the versions. Don't know how bad it will be, but I have been looking for something to code during my free time.
  • I got to watch a couple of games through the MODO client which was pretty sweet. I got to see the vindicate my own outpost siege first hand with no commentary and still thought it was hilarious/great play. I was sitting there going, man, he really needs to draw something to speed up his clock, he only has 3 turns left with that siege going.
  • Skrap: How bad/average is Woodland Wanderer in a 2-colour deck?
  • I had some problems with the stream (didn't realise I needed to maximize the window until my third attempt at viewing to get it to work, also is it just my terrible Australian speed or do twitch videos load extremely slowly for anyone else?
A couple more run-throughs and it could be possibly worthy of being posted elsewhere as content.

@Kirblinx, probably your internet speed making the stream problematic. Wanderer felt fine in two colors but unexciting to me regardless of number of colors (again, I don't usually like green decks though). I feel like a million vengevines are probably more interesting in an environment.

I think next time I do one of these I'm gonna mute the Skype banter during the draft portion and really try to focus on commentary. I like the banter, but it's too hard to think and banter and commentate.

Just wanted to give you a heads up, I have a working beta hacked up. If you've already made your thing, we can compare notes. If you haven't, I figured I'd save you the trouble of implementing it again :D

I'm finally gonna eat, since I forgot to feed myself all day while working on this, but I'll post up a new thread and like.... a video guide or something later on.

I feel like this is where it might be good to have multiple perspectives, as there are some people who prefer banter and others that prefer in-depth thought process. I don't feel I am interesting enough to be able to do commentary, so if I would make a video, I would be doing the banter version.

It would be really cool to have multiple perspectives on the same draft. I wonder if banter between two opponents during a match is better than two different perspectives of the same game such as:

I guess trial and error can figure that out.

I only just sort of started. I have an acceptance of text files and a database of Jason's cards. I hadn't done the conversion part yet (not that it would take too long).
I might still plug along with it but knowing that it has already been done saves me worrying too much about it.
If I didn't accept Jason's Grid Draft invitation I might have almost been done :p

Can you guys check that you don't have any cards still from the draft? I noticed we are missing a Brainstorm, and it's possible that other cards are absent too.

I have a program to create a thread that randomizes the packs and writes out the spoilers and the card images and all that.

That's super friggin cool. It's awesome that we have all this grassroots online cubing shit going on with like random ad hoc software. And can stream all of it. I love living in the future.

Yeah, I'll work on improving the quality of my recordings / streams in the coming months. I'm a real noob at it though, so if anybody has any tips, they would certainly be welcome.

I like OBS for streaming. My mic has a shitty sort of background buzz situation going on, not sure how to fix that or if it's just a matter of having a decent-ish turtle beach headset instead of like a professional recording quality mic.

What we really need is a top notch overlay for the stream to make it look legit. I also think we should figure out what kind of voice comms channel splits work best. I like the party feel of the full channel, but I'm not sure whether it's the best idea for coverage. I think for drafts having skype off and just commentating into the mic LSV style is best (although it's really really hard to do. By pack 3 of our draft this weekend I figured out that you just have to say your thoughts out loud and it works. But I had to mute myself on skype to do that and even then I was competing with the chat to be heard).

I'll try to be available for drafts at least a couple times a week as long as I can get like a day's worth of notice or so. I can probably talk my girlfriend into playing as well, she's never played MODO but cubes with my playgroup regularly, so some learning curve there, but I think it would be fun for the two of us to draft with y'all :)

Yeah, I actually had a lot of fun grid drafting yesterday. It helped that there was only one person to trade with, but I think eventually we'll have removed the headache from trading. There's also a learning curve to playing (quickly) on MODO, but we'll all get there.

As for drafters, the more the merrier. We're still a pretty small community, but I think everyone is happy when we can get an 8-man to fire.

What time zone are you in Skrap?

I'm PST, but definitely a night owl. I'm a software developer and she's an aspiring author so uh... yeah, we're up late.
