Sets (TDM) Tarkir: Dragonstorm Previews!

Well now I want to make a permanent with no card types!

Take a non-creature artifact, enchant it with something like Ensoul Artifact (thanks @alvoi, I had a bit of a brain fart earlier), then hit it with

It stops being an artifact, which makes the aura that was turning it into a creature fall off. Oops, it doesn't have any types anymore!

It isn't the only method, but the others I can think of involve Mutate, so...

Wait, Duskmantle being a zone is kinda interesting. I'm suddenly imagining milling your sideboard into your graveyard as a way to wish for cards...

every time i click on this thread i expect to see a cool new dragon. cmon guys you can shitpost anywhere. you're not even talking about tarkir any more. i think the new mox is cool because it incentivizes you to play both chunky dragon and one-mana interaction spells, which is something new players who want to play iconic creatures need to learn is good to do. perfect card no notes

I dunno, a 4/4 flying deathtouch that makes two 1/1s on ETB for {2}{R}{W}{B} seems solid, but exiling a card for each unique token you have whenever it attacks feels like a weird drawback for 2025 Magic.

Maybe they'll print a card or two with reminder text for what "a commander" is at some point, who knows?

This is actually being debated (!) believe it or not.

There are currently talks in Wizards of the Coast of a redo of legendary cards. They are looking for a way to communicate the legendary part without having the card type on the actual line with other card types.

There was a problem with Valgavoth because it was suppose to be a Moth (that’s crucial in the lore) but there was no space on the card. This has sprung the debate. We won’t see a ‘solution’ for years as WotC always works years in advance. But maybe some day after we’ve gotten our Battles round 2 :p

(Sorry to @safra for upping the thread with a non-spoiler comment)

This type of stuff is always upsetting to me. They're printing this card straight into Legacy. Why on earth is this a three mana 1/1!? I could maybe see arguments for setting the stats so low if it were going into Standard or retail limited, but it's not. The only places people will be able to play this card are eternal formats and Cubes. Why not give this some juice to make it exciting?

I mean we bitch enough about the commander folks complaining about nadu's effect on a format it (ostensibly) wasn't designed for that I think we can forgive the 3 color commander precon guy for not being up to legacy standards :p

Imagine a world where every straight to commander card was a psychic frog or pyrogoyf, that sounds EXHAUSTING

Couldn’t disagree more.

If everything has pushed stats then nothing has pushed stats. In other words: There needs to be good cards in order for the bad cards to feel bad and vice versa. We want variance and high highs and low lows.

Give all the 3/4 with upsides for 3 mana -1/-1 and then we’ll talk.

I think it's fine if this card isn't up to Legacy standards, you'd have to push this a lot to get it there by virtue of the fact that it's abilities are all combat centric. But they could have at least pushed it above "Invasion Block Retail Draft" power level!
