General [TLA/TLE] [UB] Avatar: The Last Airbender

Weird Falter / Cataclysm / token-killer / own-ETB-reuser / I don't even know. It's interesting as hell! I'm not planning on playing with it, but there's definitely a lot of ways to abuse how ostensibly symmeric it is!

Maindeck Magebane Lizard won a PT 5 months ago, and this thing's a Human instead of playing for Lizard synergy.
also it's legendary so @MilesOfficial will be stoked

It's a one-drop with "Inspector" in the name that makes a Clue. It's not nearly as good as the other versions of what I just said... but uh, I think it still makes it on rate for most of us synergy-lords. and it comboes with

who can go sit in the "if only I didn't have to pay 1" pile with every other sac outlet that makes me pay 1 ever printed

I get to play my favorite game of spoiler season with a surprising and unexpected target: eat shit, Rampant Growth

I am not Cubing this ever in my life, but I did say that something like this should have been the Lorehold theme in Strixhaven because I'm always glad to see a new Ember Beast.

add 'em to the Hidden Stockpile pile (laudatory)

she's just neat

This card is close to cool, the payoff to drawing two cards is just a bit too anemic for me, I'd rather it lose some stats and drain for 2 instead.

This card is awesome. Bleeding more artifact support into Black is always nice and tying the generation after ETB to attacks makes it so that you're likely to not just clog the board with a 2/3 back on defense the entire time (though it can play that role until shifting into the later game). Graveyard Trespasser is a card that plays well in practice but the Day//Night mechanic is absolute shit so it was never an option, but this gives you a different avenue towards getting that passive hate. Very clean design.

The bird is one of my favorite cards of the set. Really like the alternative art, too!

Iroh's Demonstration is a fantastic bread-and-butter card. Stoked to have this effect in the game, can't believe it's taken so long to have this kind of thing for 2 mana. It doesn't feel terrible cost-wise either way, and the scenarios where you want to cast either side of it are very different. I'm going to hopefully find room for this.

Destined Confrontation is kind of nuts for rarity-restricted Cubes. Not that I normally acknowledge/care about those, but it's really interesting.

Always happy with more of these kinds of cards.

Also: I really like Avatar's Wrath. Easy include. @Seeker is right, I am delighted by Mai, Scornful Sorcerer and that she's legendary. I hope to include her. I also delighted by the design of Mai, Jaded Edge and think she'll be kickass in other Cube projects.

Really digging this set.

This set just keeps on giving cool cards:

Why play a man land when you could have a land that turns all your lands into man lands?

Sorcery speed probably kills this for most of us, but I love how cool they captured that creepy character here.

Note how she is not legendary!

Neat.

Holy mother of walls ....

They really bumped up Lesson power level.

I'd run that wall if it had a cast trigger and annihilator and no defender and like 7 power.

Raven Eagle is cool. Name even sounds like it could be a Magic card!

Couple of cool jump-start cards today:

Kind of like a blue Beast Whisperer if it had a once per turn clause, but casting creatures at instant speed is real upside. This is the kind of synergy card I adore since it's self enabling, but if you have ninjas, other flash creatures, ghostly flicker it can draw multiple cards per turn.

I really wish this had flash / ninjutsu / sneak on it's own, even if it didn't trigger off itself. Really curious to get other's thoughts on this, as I can't tell if it's actually quite strong or mostly garbage.

If you're into Zack Fair levels of white 1 drop protection creatures, this is an interesting side-grade. Still legendary, has worse counter synergy and no equipment synergy, can't protect the turn he comes down, but hexproof generally beats indestructible and him not actually dying when he saves something makes him a cool flicker target. I think I'll be making the switch, or maybe even running both.

Curse of Predation sidegrade. Much better with mana dorks / crew / saddle, slightly worse that it doesn't work with vigilance creatures, and no synergy with 'attacks' triggers like the new Firebender Ascension. Also not sure it's worth the 'aura loss' (pun intended) of having to run this art.

If you run the whole Nadu, Winged Wisdom package I'm sure this can do something broken. Not Nadu broken, but it's automatic board protection with the ability to replay a lot ETB's on demand.

I somehow missed that 30 toughness on the wall. Huh.

Some fun designs from the Jumpstart packs:

bumisfeastlecture.jpg

I like this design quite a bit. At its floor it's effectively a hasty 2/2 for {1}{G} that makes a Food on ETB, which isn't something to sneeze at, but I feel like any deck that likes making Food anyway is going to normally slam this down and then swing in with a 4/4 or a 6/6. And hey, if your format can make that Lesson typing meaningful that adds a whole additional layer to the card.

desperateplea.jpg

I'm honestly shocked that this ended up costing {1}{B}, because holy shit is that a lot of value. You'd need the right format for it to really pop off, but damn.

While the card certainly does something, I just want to highlight it because it's a reference that feels reasonably coherent even without the original context, unlike something like It'll Quench Ya! or That's Rough Buddy.

For anyone who hasn't watched the show... yes, that is a beach volleyball net burning in the foreground.

They keep giving us stuff for hypothetical Slow RW Draft Deck Themes and I'm extremely here for it, even if this isn't in the actual draftable set.

mokumeanderingdrummer.jpg

I don't know why this card feels so strange to me. But it really does. Maybe it's the asymmetric self-pump combined with team haste?

longshotrebelbowman.jpg

For the Guttersnipe enjoyers who want a real build-around that nobody else wants. I know that's gotta describe at least one person.

animalattendant.jpg

$15 cheaper than Biophagus and also a bear rather than a Lumengrid Warden. Just don't go trying to cast Humans with counters.
