General Why Slash Panther is no longer a Vintage Staple

This is Slash Panther. It was once a Vintage staple because it could come down on turn 1 with the help of Mishra's Workshop and a Mox and kill a pesky Jace, the Mind Sculptor before the opponent can react.

It is no longer a Vintage Staple because elk man has too much loyalty.


Power creep is out of control.

Slash Panther was phased out years before Oko was printed (2019) because Fleetwheel Cruiser was superior. According to mtgtop8.com, Slash Panther has had ZERO relevant placings since early 2016. "Car Shop" MUD Aggro variants were running Fleetwheel Cruiser at the Eternal Weekend 2016 top 8 and zero Slash Panther.

I agree that power creep is out of control, but the narrative that Slash Panther is no longer a Vintage staple because "elk man has too much loyalty" simply isn't true.
