    Sets (STX) Strixhaven Testing/Includes Thread

I'm not against the idea as a whole, it's just that this first implementation is lacking with present options. If I'm playing the Learn cards, the majority of them do not synergize with my existing themes or are unimpressive overall being overcosted or having a weak effect. The handful that...

    Jason Waddell's Cube

If you can break parity with stuff like MLD she's pretty good, otherwise she's just sort of hating on everything passively. It's not insane but its never really dead either. For those cards you listed I'd go with Artisan and Knight. Both play well in the decks that they slot into by promoting...

    General [STX] Strixhaven Spoilers

It's way too much. Like Chris said, we're probably in the top percentage of enfranchised players that actually focus on new releases, but even then there are so many cards where I'm like wait what did this do again? I know they haven't had paper Magic to pull data from for over a year now, but...

    General Optimizing Cube for Sealed/Roto

For Sealed optimization I'd say the main two things to focus on are your power outliers and your mana-fixing. Traditional cubes with good fixing usually end up being miserable Sealed experiences due to great fixing leading to multicolor goodstuff piles lacking identity as you've probably run...

    General "Looking for a card"-Thread

I don't think there's a specific card to make we want to go into GW, but it has excellent support cards for whatever you want to run. A lot of the cards Train listed slot well into GW Landfall or GW CoCo decks. GW was kind of difficult to design for a while, but eventually I came to conclusion...

That's fair. I do run two Liliana cards so it can be relevant every now and then. But most of all I just really like the promo art compared to any Diabolic Edict printing thus far: Pretty much. Best case scenario it kills a walker on an empty board, worst case you've killed their weakest...

    General [STX] Strixhaven Spoilers

It's neat and probably gets there for lower-powered cubes on modality, but I'd probably just stick with Liliana's Triumph and Chainer's Edict in most scenarios. Even if the Lily discard is flavor text the majority of the time, it's still the cheapest version of that effect at instant speed with...

    Shamim's Cube

A large part of my design philosophy stems from my experience playing EDH. While I spend the majority of my Magic engagement fiddling with cube and theory-crafting here, I'd say the majority of my actual time playing the game is via EDH sessions with my playgroup (especially in the last year)...

General Podcast Tonight: Strixhaven Set Review!

Dom mentioned in a previous podcast a convo he had with Ryan Overturf about cube inclusions in the past, like how Char was a choice inspired by wanting a burn spell that would appeal to Aggro players. That's something I've been more keen on in recent years with card inclusions. For example...

    General [STX] Strixhaven Spoilers

They're really going all in on the big spell theme with this pre-con, everything is costed like 1-2 mana more than I'd need for cube inclusion. Not too impressed with day 2 spoilers thus far, though I do like this one a little: Beautiful art, but unfortunately a Panharmonicon like effect...

    Card/Deck Low Power Card Spotlight

You need ways to make those cards matter. Flashback, graveyard synergies, or setting up weird piles is the way to go. I don't really have a lower powered example, but I've used Gifts in various ways in my cube from a reanimation enabler to a flashback set-up. Hell, I've even used it to Turbo out...

    General [STX] Strixhaven Spoilers

I think Titan might be stronger with the 3 bodies left behind. I do like this as a reanimation/Welder target though. It's a very clean design at feels more fair at 9 mana than something like Wurmcoil Engine at 6. Aside from straight artifact removal, bounce and exile effects will definitely help...

Mirror is amazing. Being able to pull off some gross Welder shenanigans seems super cool. It's even within the 3 cmc for Goblin Engineer's mini Welder impression. It also doubles as a rock for Wildfire style decks which I've found to work very well alongside Daretti in decks in the past. Big fan...

    General [STX] Strixhaven Spoilers

Doesn't seem worth it to create a brand new thread for the commander set, especially where there will only be like 80 new cards, so might as well just post them in here. I'm quite excited about this one for my U/R Artifacts decks: Being able to self-pitch itself into the grave with that...

    Card/Deck Single Card Spotlight

At a lower power level in 360? Sure. It's probably more cute than good unless the other sinks are more enticing.

    General [STX] Strixhaven Spoilers

I will not abide frog slander. You take that back! I think neither of those cards do anything unique or interesting that you don't already get from the plethora of removal options in Golgari, especially compared to The Gitrog Monster which can spawn an entire archetype and inspire multiple card...

Same. It's either Throne or MH2 that have made the biggest impact since I first built my cube in 2014. After looking over the cards in my cube by set, a good solid set seems to give me around 3-5 cards that stick around long term and anything 7+ is usually a major impact set. And from a quick...

    Sets (STX) Strixhaven Testing/Includes Thread

Pretty sparse this time around, but I'm a fan of each of these: Elite Spellbinder is a slam dunk that slots into W/x Humans and U/W Blink decks as a sweet disruptive card on curve with a decent body to apply pressure. It's got a splashy mana cost, is right on rate for its stats, and it's...

    Jason Waddell's Cube

Sounds like a good idea. I'd imagine that these play way more smoothly on a digital platform than in paper. Just way too cumbersome IRL.

    General Poll: Shroud & Hexproof

We're not seeing Shroud ever because it's too unfriendly to newer players even though it's the better mechanic compared to Hexproof for gameplay depth and decision-making. Hexproof will stay and continue to be used sporadically.
