I do, because I think Flamewake is the easiest to trigger when it matters.

    Card/Deck Single Card Spotlight

I'm a fan of efficient ramp/fixing in Green, but I don't want it to be unlimited 5-colour fixing. To this end, I don't run BoP, and instead run a handful of cards chosen to not work perfectly together (at 450). At CMC 1: Noble Hierarch Deathrite Shaman Arbor Elf Utopia Sprawl Orcish Lumberjack...

Anywhere where it is a 3rd-6th pick imo. Make a bunch of 15 card packs for your cube, and then start drafting a card or two from em. When I do this to evaluate a new card's power level, I ask myself on each of the packs "would I pick [new card X] here, or something that's in the pack?"

When I ran Convergence, I ran it alongside stuff like Academy Rector and Show and Tell. It was good clean fun.

I like them all, but the Port is absolutely stunning.

Yup! Very happy with it. Sneak attack, pod, and some weirdo sac or welder decks like the death trigger (especially sneak attack) and it’s a colourless top-end for control, Show, and Reanimator. I think I got it from Anotak, but I’ve had it for a while now. 7 mana 5/7.

Spine of Ish Sah vs Golem. Interesting choice. At my power level neither really excites me.

The thing I really really like about Borderland Explorer is that he's a jack of all trades - decent stats early, discard outlet / draw smoother late, fixes shaky mana. It's cool to just run him out and then see Villain discard, say, Angel of Serenity or another premium fattie, and realize 'oh...

Hey there! I also run double Pod double CoCo. Here are my {R/G} cards: Bloodbraid, D-Lord A-tarkz, Clan Defiance (fliers hate/ramp support), and a custom spin on E-Wit. I really enjoy the threaten+pod synergies and briefly ran Sarkhan Vol, who was pretty solid at my then-power level, which is...

(part 1 of 5) Better Know A Theatre - Jeskai Spells The Jeskai colours are the home of a couple interlayered archetypes which rely on lower creature counts than average. Blue and Red are the two biggest ‘sifting’ colours in the Cube, contributing to decks that care more about card selection...

Right, but She-ago defends even better as a piker with first strike. If I wanted a red roadblock with upside I'd play Crater Elemental.

I used to play as a ringer for this guy's mtgo peasant cube, and the number of decks i built full of value cards like e-wit, bloodbraid, shardless, shriekmaw, sylvan library, etc was ridiculous. Idk if it was just the playgroup or what, but i picked fixing highly and usually ended up 3-0ing or...

Grillo, I honestly don't know how you can say Mason is partisan in one breath and post Jordan B Peterson in the other; it is shocking to me in its flagrancy. One of them is far more the salesman than the other, and it's not the guy with a blog read by like 300 people. 12 Rules For Life is the...

Just a thought, but is it possible that Kamigawa failed for a number of reasons and Wizards of the Coast have decided to say that it was only the flavor, maybe because they look better that way? Woe is us, we were too good at it for you rubes. Jesse Mason points out sometimes that Maro is one of...

I really enjoyed M13, a lot. Definitely the best core set I've drafted. I got a comment elsewhere that I overlooked 3x Kaladesh but I didn't get to play Kaladesh so sorry, you get what I know.

I had a long and interesting conversation with a non-Magic-playing friend (who plays Hearthstone) about Magic's draft formats tonight. I took a quick edit, but it's mostly chat transcript. I know, I know, but I think I got an interesting blog post out of it...

I asked him about the plant hardiness zone thing and he says it's a better descriptor of a place's climate than weather reports are. Seemed legit, didn't ask a second question about it. Vancouver is really really nice. The metro population is about a million, but there's a lot of urban sprawl...
