Isn't it also worth to decide what the platonic ideal of the deck is and try to work backwards from that? If you know what 23 spells to run, you can work out the amount of similarcards you need in the cube for at least one person getting their hands on those 8.

What if wolfir silverheart was also a robot? Not really the same insane amount of distributed power (12 for silverheart) but still a neat version. Either you get an 8/8 trampler for 5 mana, or you end up with a pretty beefed up army.

Is the idea to 'tutor' for corless sources by milling yourself and picking up the land from the yard? It's a neat take on the dilemma. Mostly it's matter of enough cards to be able to draft something functional. How many colorless eldrazi were you thinking of?

Considering the base case is usually a 4/3 that cantrips, it's pretty rough.

Is there any chance of seeing these old school decks in action? Wait, explain this to me. Nothing of the wording on the alpha lord of atlantis wording seems to indicate it wouldn't buff other lords of atlantis?

More artifact matters cards. This one seems to do one of the mechanic throwbacks of metalcraft without using the word. I initially thought the tutor mode was kinda cool, but if you need to have metalcraft for it to work, it seems like it would require a really dedicated cube.

Laboratory Maniac can open up for certain styles of combo decks in the environments that allow it, and seeing as we're an open and welcoming forum with many different styles...

I agree with you absolutely. My point was that you can decide what your threats are going to be, and then a thread like this can help you get ideas for pairing those threats with removal. I'm not suggesting you start out with the removal, just that it's nice to know what your options are.

But doesn't a study like this give an opportunity to match threats with answers in a way that creates the desired style of games?

My thread title comes from volcanic hammer being a huge step down from lightning bolt. Depending on the speed of the format, efficient bounce could be fine. I'm also thinking probably you could do with a mix? Settle at a level of crap that is at a desired level relative to the cubes...
