I can't see myself cutting either card. Lavamancer is just a perfectly designed card and Spikeshot is amazingly fun with the Heroic theme. In a typical cube list though, Lavamancer is the better card.

Flame Slash solves all of life's problems. Well, not all of them, but if you are going to run stuff like Hero of Bladehold, you should probably have Flame Slash around. Anger of the Gods is also probably a good suggestion.

Cool card, but constantly having to represent 4 mana is a lot. Without the threat, a one toughness three drop isn't getting any work done. It might be worth something.

The fact that in multiplayer your opponents can collude to blow it when you don't want to seems to make it undesirable in that format.

I think the fact that you can only pop Coercive Portal if the opponent gives you there permission is also relevant. Its really Phyrexian Arena that costs and extra mana in exchange for no life loss.

Its a tragic truth that good (board) game design generally doesn't make any money.

So far it just wheeled to oblivion. I'd hate to cut a card without anyone taking the plunge, but if no one has any interest in it, might as well cut it even if it is user error.
