    Other Games

The best of the new breed of complex board games have a lot of depth and moving parts, but can still be rewarding to play at all skill levels. Something like Agricola, one of my absolute favorites, has done a very good job of allowing people of all levels to have fun playing together. Also...

    Other Games

BennyD (and hey, are you the guy who invited me to the cubing party a couple of years ago in the East Bay, complete with precon cube decks?), I totally agree with your assessment of Innovation. However, while the rules are straightforward, the learning curve is very steep. The trajectory of many...

    GBS

Yeah, it looks really good. The developer is taking requests and implementing them as fast as he can, so I imagine the glitches will be fixed pretty soon. (I can now enter my Booster Tutor and Maelstrom Wanderer, which wasn't true yesterday.) He has promised a range of options for cube...

Cube Tool cuesbey.com - purpose-built site for cube comparison

By the way, have you guys seen this very new site? http://www.cubetutor.com/analysis/67 Very simple analysis, but very well presented, and a draft function that tracks your picks and (I believe) learns. Obviously, a total different project from cuesbey, but I thought you might find it interesting.

    Nathan's Cube

Man, I wish I drafted enough to get data. Jason, I have no idea what I'm doing with statistics, so don't mock me too hard, but here are the (Pearson) correlations between win percentage and: # of colors played: -0.06 # of white cards in deck: -0.10 # of blue cards in deck: 0.31 # of black cards...

    General Brainstorming: Microdrafting

When I was in Philly, folks there would have small "Type 15" tournaments, with 15-card decks (and you can't lose by decking). I had thought of seeing if it would work as a cube format, but the valuation of cards shifts massively; you'd need to build a new cube from the ground up. I do love...

    General Hollywood Squares

Interesting! My concern is that it would take a long time auctioning only one card at a time. I think we do our auction drafts in lots of seven cards, to speed things up. Why are things set up as 3x3? The pattern isn't actually important, is it? Do you auction all nine cards before drawing...

    CML's Cube (405, polychromatic)

Man, I ran Scute Mob in my cube forever, and was mercilessly razzed for it on MTGO. I loved that little dude. Well, swarm of little dudes. Sure, it dies to everything and gets chumped easily, but it is always a gain in tempo. I think I'll try him again, see how he does in my current cube setup.

What have you been drafting? Once I get my act together and post the list, you can wind down with a free, unhurried 2-man Winston of my online cube. I promise not to beat you with a Vortexless monored deck.

General Decks that have 3-0'd your cube

Secondarily--isn't your cube too fast for Desolate Lighthouse? It was too slow even for my ponderous cube, and I cut it despite my love of looters.

    General Say hello!

Jesse, I went over to MTGS and took a look at your cube. I see you run a card I've been wanting to test since it was spoiled, but that absolutely no-one else had the slightest interest in--High Priest of Penance. How has it been working for you so far?

    CML's Cube (405, polychromatic)

I'll respond more later, but by far my favorite morph is Willbender, and it was missing from your list. If I cut everything else, I'd keep Willbender, Vesuvan Shapeshifter (for the blue morph fakeout), Exalted Angel and Bane of the Living. Just last week I redirected Sarkhan the Mad's...

    CML's Cube (405, polychromatic)

I have experimented with pushing morph in my cube, to the extent of having Zoetic Cavern in. I've been running Akroma, Angel of Fury as an experiment. I don't like Protection from Color cards generally, but also don't really mind hosing blue if I'm going to run one. It's led to some pretty...

Card/Deck Mana rocks / Colourless mana fixing

Yeah, I've been staring at Serum Powder all morning, trying to figure out if it would ever be played. Give us specifics, Hannes!

    General Recording Paper Drafts

I'm looking forward to this; don't worry about looking stupid. Haters gonna hate and all that. Your post did raise one issue I've been wanting to discuss--how resilient should your cube be to different abilities and play styles? If you play with the same people most every time, you can craft...

General Quilting: a two-player draft format

I've been getting feedback from folks on MTGS about it, and some seem to like the 2-grid version, while others prefer a 3-grid version. Also, more people have tried it with three drafters, and it apparently does work. Let me know how it goes!

Card/Deck Mana rocks / Colourless mana fixing

Since my cube began as very budget, and since lands are the most expensive part of most cubes, I relied heavily on artifact fixing for most of my cube's life. I enjoy superramp timmy plays (Mirari's Wake will leave my cube when you pry it from my cold, dead hands), and wanted to spread the...

    tomchaps' cube

I've liked Wolfir Silverheart so far. He is surprisingly beatable for a card that makes such a ridiculous apparent impact, which makes for great stories. You're staring down a crazy amount of damage, and then you play a simple Into the Roil to bounce one half of the soulbond and kill the other...

    General Opportunities and Ideas

As for the organized MTGO cubing, back before the official MTGO cube was released, I actually had my own MTGO cube that was cheap enough I didn't mind lending it out to folks (as temporary "trades"). I gave myself a $40 total budget for a 360 card cube, and it was really not bad. (There were...

    tomchaps' cube

Thanks for the comments! I agree that my cube could use some streamlining, although I dearly love my splashy 4-drops. I also don't mind having a lot of variance in my drafts--I'd go crazy if I ran one of those 360 cubes in which every card is drafted every time. Thus, I don't mind having a 500...
