    Good calls, Chris.

    General Two headed giant cube

I'd like to do Smallpox, but I don't want to encourage mana screw, so I'd rather do something like Innocent Blood. Edit: Oh, and I don't think every card will be original. Playing a lot of existing rebels, for example. Also, original is probably a stretch for a Rampant Growth that can affect...

    General Two headed giant cube

Ok, after thinking about it for a while, I am thinking more and more of doing all custom cards. Most cards are going to be tweaked versions of existing cards to make balancing it somewhat manageable, but team-based cards don't have enough existing support to me. So it probably means I should...

    General Two headed giant cube

I'm imagining this would be drafted as a team. Four teams of two would draft from packs of 18, picking two cards each pick. There are five packs, meaning a total of 90 cards per team, 360 cards in the pool. Part of the fun of a card like Grey Merchant of Asphodel is figuring out that it works...

    General Two headed giant cube

That's an interesting example. Extort is clearly very powerful in 2HG. Powerful mechanics are good. I'm especially interested in mechanics that do something with the team aspect of 2HG. My initial idea would be: Recover (needs a better name) Ability word: if your teammate <meets condition Y>...

    General Two headed giant cube

Ok dudes, been a while since I posted here, but as I was playing two-headed giant at the prerelease tonight, it occurred to me that it would be sweet to make a cube designed for 2HG. It's just brainstorm/thought experiment stage, but since it would probably be cool to do it with custom cards, I...

    Gimmicky Cube (540, unpowered, themed)

Some updates to the cube. Ended up coming around to a lot of the feedback here. Give it a sample draft (http://www.cubetutor.com/draft/13664) and tell me what you think.

    Dom's Cube(s)

You can check out a draft of the list I'm working on here: http://cubetutor.com/viewcube/13664 There's some mistakes in there, so not every card is actually supposed to be there, but you get the idea. There is a theme for each 2 color pair: UW - blink/etb BW - sacrificing your own stuff BU -...

    Dom's Cube(s)

It looks to me like the baseline power level of cards in your cube is pretty high. If you want synergistic strategies to emerge, I think you need to not make it possible just to draft a bunch of powerful cards.

    General Fixing the Die Roll

Hearthstone is not the first game to remove lands, every CCG Richard Garfield designed after Magic was this way. Some solutions work better than others. In general, I think the crystals in Hearthstone don't really solve the problem at a gameplay level. Sure, it feels worse to lose to mana...

Card/Deck Theme in black and white

How do we create synergistic themes in black and white? I think white and black are an interesting pair from a design perspective. MaRo talks how they are one of the two pairs with the least straightforward mechanical hearts (the other being UB...

    Article Nykthos in Modern

I am going to try testing out a Skred Red/Nykthos deck in the next few weeks for fun. I don't know how good it will be, but I think it could do well in certain metagames. It will probably be good against the UWR Geist decks for example. Maybe someday there will be enough goblins for Nykthos...

Site News Design Contest Voting and Debate

Since the contest seems pretty much decided, I'll say I submitted Splinter Twin. I underestimated how much people hate combos in cube here; I often hear from people who wish there were more combos in cube. I actually was hoping the response would be more like yours. I imagined that Twin would...

Site News Design Contest Voting and Debate

The reason I hesitate to vote for GSZ is that I don't think it does enough different from what green already does, and I don't feel like it would push my to build around it. It's plenty powerful already. Green midrange decks are already decent, and GSZ doesn't make me want to draft them...

Site News Design Contest Voting and Debate

There's some interesting suggestions here. For my vote, I want something powerful enough to hang with other stuff in cube, interesting enough to be it's own thing (build-around), and different enough from what is already happening already in cube or within that color. I like Pyromancer...

Card/Deck Tezzeret (either one) and making them work in cube

This discussion about "fun" began with what to play with Tezzeret(s), and I think including the lock down cards like Winter Orb is good for that. I don't think my point of view about fun is mutually exclusive with anyone else's; I'd love to draft any of the cubes posted here. I do however...

Card/Deck Tezzeret (either one) and making them work in cube

Two things, I think WO is good in both aggro and Tezz. Second, I think we have a different understanding of fun. I'm not trying to persuade you because fun is subjective. I just want to offer an alternative viewpoint. I am a big believer in having "villains" in my cube. I don't want too...

Card/Deck Tezzeret (either one) and making them work in cube

I like Winter Orb. It's generally best in aggro decks, and I tend to try to help those out the most. It helps W and B aggro decks seal the game, kind of like Armageddon. I think the best case for Relic isn't that good. Crucible is only powerful with Strip Mine, Loam is pretty weak even in...

Card/Deck Tezzeret (either one) and making them work in cube

I though Grim Monolith and Mana Vault would be too broken, but they haven't been too bad. They work in ramp decks, and sometimes control decks, but the one-shot nature of them limits them. The utility stuff is good, but it needs to be playable outside of Tezzeret. I'm not a fan of "sideboard...

Card/Deck Tezzeret (either one) and making them work in cube

I have a 450, unpowered, singleton cube that hews pretty close to the internet consensus lists. I run these mana rocks: Chrome Mox Mox Diamond Mana Vault Grim Monolith Mindstone Coalition Relic Chromatic Lantern Everflowing Chalice Important other artifacts: Engineered Explosives Ratchet...
