General Favorite cube cards from the late 90/early 2000s

Just want to shout out a family of creatures I think are actually really good and cool from this era: Shivan Wurm Cavern Harpy Lava Zombie Sawtooth Loon Fleetfoot Panther There are more of these, like Doomsday Specter, and I've always been a big fan. Their bodies are above rate (especially for...

General Favorite cube cards from the late 90/early 2000s

There are already a lot of great suggestions in this thread, so I'm just going to mention something I decided to do while working on a similar project: include a (very small) number of modern cards that appear with the old-border treatment. I put 4 copies of Terramorphic Expanse and 4 copies of...

General Favorite cube cards from the late 90/early 2000s

This is a crazy coincidence, because I've been working on a 180-card retro nostalgia cube heavily based in the Invasion Block with some Onslaught, Odyssey, and contemporary core set cards included. I'll post my list as soon as I can get CubeCobra to load it. There's some kind of glitch making...

General (LCI, REX, LCC) Lost Caverns of Ixalan and Jurassic Park Testing/Includes Thread Mega Dino Danger Edition

This set is going to allow me to make the jump to 720, which I was not expecting to do for another year or so. Explore has always been one of Green's key mechanics in my environment, and tying that to a trinket artifact with Map tokens goes beyond "chef's kiss" territory into a full-blown...

Dragon's Rage Channeler A really creative, flexible one-drop that stays relevant and rewards deckbuilding choices. Urborg Lhurgoyf A creature with cool bonus options whose "base" mode isn't totally awful. So many old Kicker creatures were just Gray Ogres who also made your opponent discard a...

    Welder's Workshop

Battle Report: Commander Mega-Sealed A few years ago I read an article about a group of people at a con playing a mini-tournament of "Booster Box Sealed," with boxes of Modern Horizons, or some equally expensive "premium" limited set. It's pretty much exactly what it sounds like: you buy a...

Sets (LCI & REX) Lost Caverns of Ixalan and Jurassic Park spoilers

OMG. I have been searching high and low for a Jeskai legend who REALLY feels like they belong in my cube. Here it is!!! Jeskai is my favorite color combo, so this is especially delightful for me.

General (NEO) Kamigawa: Neon Dynasty Testing/Includes Thread

NEO is one of the sets that make my cube possible. 47 cards are still in my list, split between the regular list and the special-guest Commander module. None of them are in much danger of being cut, although I might replace Eater of Virtue with Tarrian's Soulcleaver. Even if I were to trim the...

Sets (LCI & REX) Lost Caverns of Ixalan and Jurassic Park spoilers

I'm going to cut either Glass Casket or Portable Hole for Dusk Rose Reliquary. BUT WHICH!? I think it's likely the Casket will stay. The 3-mana slot is full of high-value targets for this card to hit. Actually, it might even be better to cut Static Net instead.

Sets (LCI & REX) Lost Caverns of Ixalan and Jurassic Park spoilers

Hey let me just interrupt our regularly scheduled analysis for a brief Vorthos freak-out: Master's Manufactory mentions "the Fomori" in its flavor text. If I'm not mistaken, this is a species of giants originally encountered on Dominaria. So, what's the deal with this? Did they get blasted...

    General Universes Restored

Lol, I actually cut about a paragraph from the end of the initial post because I tend to go on an absolute spiral when I get on the topic. I'll post an honest-to-god Fink Peece about the whole concept at some point. The positive side of UnB is that it helped me drastically redefine my...

Sets (LCI & REX) Lost Caverns of Ixalan and Jurassic Park spoilers

Stalactite Stalker will probably replace Evolved Sleeper in my cube. The sleeper is mostly there because I like the card, but this weird little goblin actually fits the mechanical space. Between him, Spyglass Siren, and Cenote Scout, the one-drop zone is going to get a nice refresh with this set.

I'll probably cut Myr Battlesphere for this just because I'm tired of the sphere. He's been rattling around for too long!

    General Universes Restored

Graveyard of the Ghostplates The Warhammer 40k Necron deck was the product that made Universes Restored unavoidable for me. My pet cube is all about graveyards, artifacts, and tokens, so a quick scan through these incredibly cool card designs made me realize I was not going to be able to just...

    General Universes Restored

The Project: They're going to keep making Universes Beyond cards, and I'm going to keep disliking it. This thread is where I propose my solution: Universes Restored, an ongoing series of "custom proxy versions" of UnB cards that fit with the overall fictional flavor of MtG, a card game which is...

Sets (LCI & REX) Lost Caverns of Ixalan and Jurassic Park spoilers

I wasn't expecting this set to be absolutely stuffed with cards for Welder's Workshop. But between the Map tokens, Descend, and Craft, half the mechanics in the set are practically custom-designed for my environment, and that's to say nothing of the incidentally great cards like The Skullspore...
