General Getting Started - The Core of A Cube

How many land slots do you have? If you have lots of extra room I would start looking for cards that are useful to multiple archetypes you support. If different drafters want the same card for different reasons, often that creates a good draft dynamic.

General Spells Matter: Astonished With a Freedom

Sorry, to be more explicit, are people against running Delver of Secrets in their cube lists now?

Wait are people anti-Delver now? I loved it in mine but I also ran like 4000 Brainstorms.

The -1 is a surprise game winner. As in, you surprise yourself when you realize "oh right, if I -1, I win the game".

    Card/Deck Single Card Spotlight

This card was always just a Sulfuric Vortex for aggro decks that was only active when functionally Hellbent. As a 1-off in a 40 card deck nobody will build around it, but just shove it into a deck that tends to empty its hand anyways. There's mild play to it (don't play your mountain so you have...

    General Cube Pack Wars

Just to bump this, I've been playing some more cube pack wars with my girlfriend and this is what we're currently running: (player 2 in parentheses) 20 random non-land cards 5 basics 5 allied fetches (enemy fetches) 5 enemy shocklands (allied shocklands) We also play that fetchlands don't do...

I really liked Venser when I ran him. It's a good anchor for the archetype, if that's what you're looking to do. The biggest issue is that many cubes only run like 3 gold cards per guild, so you have to be pretty set on that as your direction considering the competition for {W} {U} slots.

This makes me almost as sad as Sakurai's quotes on competitive Melee.

General Venkman - Draft As You Play

Anybody have experience playing with this? It's an idea I've played with before but was never really satisfied with.

I like the idea of each deck being unique and every player having no tangible material advantage over another. My girlfriend likes these types of games, but doesn't like deckbuilding at all, so I'm always on the lookout for games with this type of quality. Of course games with pre-constructed...

No, people just invest a ton in searching for Willy Wonka's Magic Ticket of an optimized deck. Or it all just plays like random starter decks against each other. There are aspects of it I like, feels like the type of idea one of you oddballs would come up with. Also, for tournaments you...

New Richard Garfield game incoming and it has some absurd ideas: https://kotaku.com/in-magic-the-gathering-creators-new-card-game-every-d-1828065577 This on anyone's radar?

General Getting Started - The Core of A Cube

Yeah, that was the idea behind Lifegain. I think in the end the archetype had too many cards other drafters didn't want, which I didn't realize initially.

General Getting Started - The Core of A Cube

As Onderzeeboot said, drafting your cube is the most valuable feedback you can get. You can theory craft to a certain degree, but a lot of your assumptions or worries will be stripped away once you actually start playing. One of the great things about a sacrifice theme is that you can build it...

I wrote a couple articles on sacrifice themes in cube: https://www.channelfireball.com/articles/cube-design-remodeling-part-one/ https://www.channelfireball.com/articles/cube-design-remodeling-part-two/ Maybe these can think about how to structure things. For what it's worth, the strongest...

Yeah, it and Hero of Bladehold are kind of pushing it in terms of offensive capability for a 4-drop.

Oh whoops, I hadn't seen Aston's post. My nitpicking was redundant!

    General Fight Club

I agree with most of your post, but will nitpick here. In my opinion, arguably you would be making cards more likely to be played in the same deck better, and cards less likely to be played in the same deck worse. A nerf to Gravecrawler is a nerf to Carrion Feeder.

    The Video Game Thread

I never spent much time on Super Mario Maker because there was absolutely no quality. Probably less than 5 percent of levels were what I describe as "fun", and the Utopia of a never ending pile of great original Mario levels (that actually feel like playing Mario) simply didn't exist. Maybe...
