    General Hooks for Drafting Aggro

What are you imagining as being sort of the apex cards? That goes a long way to establishing the power feel of the cards you want to use as incentives.

One of the things I've been noticing with our grid drafts, is that removal density can be very finicky both in the draft and in game. So you can sometimes get decks with, say 3-4 removal pieces, but prone to take a more controlling stance. In that situation, the removal has to be somewhat...

Kirblinx vs Aston: Non-White Penny Pincer Grid Draft

I've been going back and forth about that missed saproling burst attack M3G1. It would have forced him to pop the starstorm to stay alive, which would have put you in a much better position, but at that point you were kind of just getting buried by trading post. M2g2 was pretty incredible...

    General Hooks for Drafting Aggro

I wouldn't say its foolish, it just makes it a little harder to recomend cards and have the recomendations work out. Fabled hero, silverblade paladin, and miran crusader, for example, kind of represent three different formats. Assault strobe and temur battle rage belong in different worlds as...

Lucre, what kind of removal would get you excited, as a control player?

I don't really like infect. I've tried to come up with a lot of different ways to make it viable, but at the end of the day you really shouldn't be mixing a regular damage plan with an infect plan. The only exception to that I can think of would be maybe inkmoth nexus, because its such an...

    General Hooks for Drafting Aggro

Do you have a specific topic in mind? I'm variously interested in that turn two aggro concept, and various disruptive tools. I think in general, in environments, the higher you go up the power spectrum, the more aggro takes on a disruptive identity.

    Card/Deck Single Card Spotlight

Exactly, and some cubes do have that problem (which are presumably following riptide specs based on the blocking side discussion) which means you should either provide more robust tools for control, or not run the card. Thats all the post read, and its pretty spot on i.m.o. I don't think...

    General Hooks for Drafting Aggro

Generally, I get excited about any sort of burst damage option, so besides atarka's command, stuff like: silverblade paladin mirran crusader become immense I also really like the idea of a suicide black deck, which I touched on at the end of that article, but I don't know how that would...

    General Hooks for Drafting Aggro

If we talking higher power formats, I like this deck a lot. Lots of disruption, some double strike creatures to make up for lost time. It might be a little bit too high curve for you. This is a really context specific question, because what you are really asking is what aggro cards feel...

    Card/Deck Single Card Spotlight

I think the important thing is you don't want the control pilots to feel like they are getting beat in the face for <x> turns, and than right when they stabilize and can actually start playing magic, boom six to the face. Stabilizing should feel like it can mean something. Thats a bigger...

    Card/Deck Single Card Spotlight

Its in this post, but is a little tricky to see: This has been kind of a recurring complaint in his posts for the last 8-12 months? But its basically that a lot of/small sample of riptide style cubes he plays feature poor control tools, and he is laying out criteria specific to certain...

    Card/Deck Single Card Spotlight

Right, but we're talking about fiery confluence within a specific context, not broadly. Nor are we saying it necessarily should even be excluded within that context: it might be better to just give control access to better early interaction, for example. The card is kind of a platform for a...

    Card/Deck Single Card Spotlight

I think the big difference in experience is that you're doing mostly multiplayer, and multiplayer can naturally tolerate more powerful effects without them feeling busted.

    Card/Deck Low Power Card Spotlight

I think I wish it was 1/2 or didn't tap :/ Extort is a very grindy mechanic, that wants to entrench its board. A 1/1 body seems like it fits awkwardly into both a defensive deck that wants to lay a long game, or an aggressive deck that wants to disrupts counter based strategies. If your...

    Card/Deck Single Card Spotlight

I think you misunderstand, I'm not making an objective judgment on fiery confluence, I'm making a context specific one. Certain formats shouldn't be giving that tool to their drafters, because of the way the games in that format flow. The anecdote of a weird grid draft was just supposed to...

    Card/Deck Single Card Spotlight

I don't know how to back lucas up on this without sounding awkward, talking cross formats and power levels and what not, but I kind of stumbled across that concern when I was grid drafting with kirblinx, with these decks. The draft went kind of awkward for me, and I ended up with a worse...

Kirblinx vs Grillo: Non-Blue Penny Pincer Grid Draft

That first pack was pretty tough. I felt that the column that you took (3) offered the best change of a synergistic deck, but column 1 had a bomby card (persecute) and good cards to stay open with. I kind of think it was the wrong pick, because persecute would be less good against a a fast metal...
