I've always gone with flame slash over roast, and have never ended up actually running roast. The difference between four damage and five damage is pretty significant in its own right, and the efficiency of it makes it easier for aggro decks to run.

Per my conversation last night with Kirblinx, I asked the guy I played against (DownByTheRiverside) on mtgo for that crazy combo list, and he was nice enough to respond. His name for it was sporuting infect, but blighted vines sounds so much better. No sb, though he suggested apostle's...

    Card/Deck Single Card Spotlight

Its a good card, its just a little marginal i.m.o. I kind of wanted to have a more impactfull effect in that slot. The big advantage of it being free is that you can use it to protect threats and counter damage based burn, or as pseudo removal in combat. I feel like +2 +2 is a little marginal in...

    Inscho's Turn 2 Cube

I think one thing to remember about krasis is that its kind of awkward because you are looking to both curve into it with counter creatures and than curve into another midrange card to trigger it. That might be a bit too inconsistent for cube. No idea about duplicant in terms of power level...

Vines>become immense>mutagenic growth. Most cube environments shouldn't be so condensed they require mutagenic growth though.

General When Is Fixing Too Good?

I don't even need to go to reddit: the comments in the article itself are epic enough. Yes, those changes would wreak the fabric of the format and everything that makes it unique, and should not be taken seriously. Its just funny he settled upon the same general complaints we were having in...

General When Is Fixing Too Good?

So, unbelievably I go to channel fireball this morning and see Caleb Durward has this article, about the legacy ban list. Legacy aficionado caleb, advocating that wasteland should be banned from legacy... ---- Well—funny story about that. I would do crazy things to the Legacy banned list. I'm...

    Inscho's Turn 2 Cube

    1. The DS is going to be a little messy. You seem to have a decent density of triggers for hero. I think because so many of the white triggers are auras I just didn't see them in the pack. Usually, with hero, I like to play reactive instants that disrupt removal. The density of effects for...

Only if you play with smart people. Otherwise you have to impose slow play rules.

Another thing that we are kind of leaving out is how hackneyed these format police cards can feel once taken out of their respective formats and reduced in density. My players are mostly casuals who have never touched legacy, and have no idea how wasteland is "supposed to be played." If you are...

The best part of that video set was watching it lose to delver  I think he misplayed the matchup pretty badly though. His deck should be strongly favored, since he has a far superior late game, ample answers to all of delver's threats, and the threats he runs outsize delvers.

Just based off of watching VSL, the shop matchups went from groan worthy boring to exciting since the restriction of chalice. I can't imagine them with x4 trinisphere as well. :(

I'll contribute my thoughts on word meaning later, but just to add a few more to the list: aggro-control: fish decks: disruptive aggro: aggro: midrange: control: roshambo model: draft dynamics: metagame: ULD: ramp deck: pitches to force: Legacy lite format: conditional removal: Dragon Cube...

Rats are great! Obviously low power, but they are basically a creature with a disruptive cantrip that can be tossed away for all sorts of fodder strategies.

If we are going to talk about wasteland as power, I think we have to put post turn 1-2 plays under the microscope. Actual power can lead to unfun non-games at any point that its drawn; is wasteland similar though?

    Inscho's Turn 2 Cube

Empty was a little too narrow for my tastes. Its ok to run some more narrow cards, but you have to be careful that there aren't so many they begin diluting the draft mechanics. Anyways, I did a few drafts, and it felt smoother this time. I had a few thoughts about one of the aggro decks I...

General When Is Fixing Too Good?

There is one other point that I feel should be included: 5. Wasteland's mana cost is itself. Stonerain requires an investment of 3 mana. We've been couching the discussion predominately in terms of turn 1 LD, but one of wastelands strengths is that you can sequence out multiple spells in a...

I think he is just asking for a list of common jargon we run into on the forum, with a simple definition, which I think is fine. I'm guessing just a very basic, one sentence definition for each term. Tempo: Card Advantage: Perceived Pressure: Spell Velocity: Graveyard Velocity: Negative...

General When Is Fixing Too Good?

I think we are talking about two different things. I'm contemplating no uld and a different mana configuration, to see how far one can push "colorless utility land greed" vs "color fixing greed". I'm asking what knobs and levers could be used to encourage that sort of strategic divide, if any...

General When Is Fixing Too Good?

It is interesting, that at the end of the day we end up, again, bifurcating mana base construction between multi-color greed, and two color consistency. It seems very difficult to escape that in a limited setting. I wonder if there is any merit in pushing this, by making it more of a focus on...
