Grillo Vs Kirblinx: Non-Red Penny Pincher Grid Draft

That was great. Here was my deck I went 1-2, in three pretty close games. I had a BUG control/ramp deck, while kirblinx had a GBW deck focused on value reanimation. Game 1 he managed to not drew a combination of haymakers and reanimation that I couldn't deal with, and was able to...

The only thing I can think to add to that is that there exists a general belief in the broader mtg community that the higher the power magic = better magic. I kind of attribute that to wotc marketing. People need to remember great standard formats like kamagawa/ravinca, which were basically...

Part of the problem too is that mtgs forums can be very toxic. It reminds me of 10-15 years ok when I would go onto gaming forums and posters were more concerned with securing their dominance in a social hierarchy than producing good content. Some of those posters have really invested their...

The pyrimad model was, from as I understood it, just supposed to express the idea of power bands, and the size of a raw card pool to work with. For example, the problem we have whenever anyone goes to put together a vintage cube is that only a handful of cards end up being playable. The...

Yeah you're right about that, got too excited. Oh well, its still nice to have another mini-overrun.

Those are two completely different spells. The bushwhackers are overrun effects for aggro decks, and a strategy within themselves.

The new one is stronger, no question. The only scenario where goblin bushwhacker out performs it is in the scenario where you are stuck on exactly two red sources. Otherwise its an easier to cast bushwhacker; giving me one less singleton break in the main cube. The other awesome thing about...

Thats not a bad record considering you were running a somewhat niche rogue deck, kirb. I feel like you got a little unlucky in a few of those games. Familiar is a pretty brutal deck to play against, and I'm not sure what the plan is there besides just race them. As an aside, I feel like there...

The problem with casual formats is that they tend to not get seriously examined because they are casual. :/ I'm surprised you guys didn't ban post or mental misstep.

They don't actually have any peasant lists on the metagame.it site; they have a lot of good pauper content though. I think Onderzeeboot has a lot of lists, as he used to play peasant a lot. I'm sure that there is a lot of brewing room, as the format gets even less attention than pauper.

First victim of stupid pauper combo deck. This is my turn 4, and I was on the draw, against what was probably the most explosive elves draw I've ever seen. Thats 32 power on his side of the board. Didn't really matter though in the end.

    Card/Deck Single Card Spotlight

I think I can actually speak to this a little bit. In pauper MBC decks, most of your impactful play start at 3cc (chittering rats, phyrexian rager, crypt rats etc), and most of your 1-2cc plays are going to be removal. There are a few exceptions: contemporary MBC runs cuombajj witches, and my...

Black card draw questions/observations: 1. Night's whisper should, in theory, be a higher pick as a draw smoother, since it fires off on two mana. Yet, night's whisper isn't that great. In pauper, the MBC decks run sign in blood, and I swear there is a correlation between tapping out turn 2...

Blue Jund is called Grixis. Snag does not rhyme with leg. This person does not understand Jund. Why would you just not play merfolk? Ugh...I don't even...what did I just watch?

    Card/Deck Single Card Spotlight

Can we talk a little bit about card advantage vs. card selection? The painful truths vs. read the bones discussion is vaguely reminiscent of the dig through time v. treasure cruise debate. One of the arguments that I've heard is that formats tend to value attrition more so than selection, and...

That was a ton of fun. On that turn in game 2, where the deck "went off." This is what happened. I had a hand of absolute nonsense: boomerang manamorphose sprouting vines sprouting vines reckless charge reckless charge simic growth chamber You cast that utopia sprawl, so I used that...
