No not unclear from the printed wording. In those days a creature was a creature in play, else it was a creature card. Porting it to now can confuse people, but so can several printings of lightning bolt (whether it is able to hit planeswalkers or not depends on the printing).

I completely agree with you. Thing is, it is possible to play commander with weak cards. But cards geared for commander are too strong for original mtg.

No commons no problem. As long as there is removal at uncommon you are okay. There are many cubes that have quite a different rarity distribution. The uncommons become the commons and the rares the uncommons.

Thing is. Kavu is useless on an empty board. I think that the red goyf is way better when you have 3 or more types in the yard. Going after anything is a big, big plus.
