    Card/Deck Low Power Card Spotlight

Yeah, I just thought it was a reasonable workaround for not having to write down the order in those formats. Though it reads super weird.

General Let's talk broad power band

Well, see, I'm testing these: Providence Jace's Mindseeker Lost Hours Mogis's Warhound Tree of Redemption As for cards I have more confidence on the power level that I'm not likely cutting: Soltari Crusader Spined Thopter Kiku, Night's Flower Browbeat Silhana Ledgewalker

    Kamigawa cube

I feel like the archetypes are too linear, feels on rails. I know it's Kamigawa, but it feels like it has gone even farther than triple CHK.

General Let's talk broad power band

To be clear, I not saying "run Archangel Avacyn" and Pack Rat, unbeatable bomb rares are miserable. When you run a low enough power level, there is space to have cards that have higher power in relation to your average, but are still not GRBS. Think Tireless Tracker or Shriekmaw. Swingy, not...

    Card/Deck Low Power Card Spotlight

I think of him as a 3/3 for 2R that will once in a while draw you reach EOT. I guess he is low power on average, though high variance..

General Let's talk broad power band

I completely agree with that. What I've been doing lately to keep complexity under control is doing the first half of the setup myself, which is the complicated part of putting together each player's 45 card pile. Then, when we get together, I give a pile to each player, ask them to shuffle...

General Let's talk broad power band

I already try to keep a color balance by doing this: 1. For each player, take 7 cards of each color (35 total), 6 from the artifact/multi pile and 4 from the non-basic land pile. The total is 45 cards 2. Each player shuffles these 45 cards together and makes 3 15-card boosters. 3. Each player...

General Let's talk broad power band

Lots of cube designers have the goal of maintaining a narrow power band. I’m not sure this is the right thing to do. Grillo has raised the point in this thread but the discussion went towards other directions (and when doesn’t it)...

Timbers First Budget Cube - help

Why do you have Deceiver Exarch without Splinter Twin or Kiki-Jiki? Leftover? Isn't Wolfir Silverheart oppressive at that power level? Doesn't the Auras theme get blown out by removal consistently? I think some creatures with hexproof are be necessary to make it work.

    Card/Deck RW Reanimator

Breath of Life Resurrection Unburial Rites Either red or blue work to support Wx reanimator. I think blue is slightly better, but Faithless Looting is sweet.

General Why I'm going low power

Definitely. Low power isn't inherently fun, and if one built cubes from random low-power and random high-power cards, I bet the high-power one would be more fun because the average card tends to be more interesting. My realization was that low-power opens wider possibilities, pushing themes...

    General Minimum Deck Size

What I, as a player, have been doing is come to terms with the fact that if I'm sweating too much about the last cuts, they don't matter that much, so I've been playing 41-42 cards in a regular basis and 45-46 sometimes. You could house rule some small incentive for larger decks. Say, start...

    General Minimum Deck Size

There are two knobs there: booster size and minimum deck size. I prefer to keep the booster size at 15 and deck size at 40, and run narrower cards and more utility lands. If you dislike this approach, you could do what retail did and cut boosters to 14 cards, saving some mental fatigue for...

Card/Deck GREEN: Land Attack / Lands Matter

I've played Wind Zendikon and Crusher Zendikon, they are fine at lower power levels. Haven't tried the others though.

General Why I'm going low power

This is best told as a story, which I’ll start trying to keep brief, but will spiral out of control. Skip down to the TL;DR, if you are in a hurry. The anectode starts like that: I hadn’t played Magic in years, for a lack of money and friends who were into it. In 2010 I started working at a...
