    General Modular Cube

My 540 is more of a 360 with +50% variance, so I need to keep the same amount of archetypes as a 360 could support.

    General Modular Cube

I've put a lot of effort in tuning my cube, making sure archetypes had critical mass, but more generic decks were at a similar power level. The cube is currently at 540 (12 players) and I found that 50% extra cards kept enough variance that drafts were unique, so this number is good for 8...

    Article ChannelFireball: Utility Land Draft

Me getting slammed on MTGS about the Panoramas a while ago Truth be told, Panoramas are kind of bad as printed. You need a sluggish environment for them to be preferable over a basic.

    Card/Deck Single Card Spotlight

A certain mechanic became taboo because of... reasons. I like him better than Fabled Hero or Arashin Foremost, but cut him for being too good for too little work.

Sets [OGW] Oath of the Gatewatch Spoiler Thread

Looking at the power level of Mirrorpool, it's a bit pushed but still realistic if you assume a cost of <> can be paid with any color and a <> mana pays for a cost of (1) or <>. It'd be a Fork/Clone land for any color with a markup of two mana 2, which is a bit less than the Blighted lands but...

River Kelpie I've noticed a lack of interesting cards in the blue 5cc slot.

    General Narrow Card Injection

The problem with poison is when the cards are so specialized that you are just putting a deck back together while drafting. Having a few narrow cards in the cube helps with 1. showing what archetypes are supported; 2. signals, which are so hard to read in cube. Keep it at a minimum not to...

    (and) Another MORPH cube

I think the confluences are at a much higher power level than any morph format. Wretched Confluence and Fiery Confluence especially, since they are so good at killing morphs. Really like Goblin Tunneler, Volt Charge there. Misthook Kirin is a decent megamorph that you can run to improve the...

    General Narrow Card Injection

I'd replace Grave Pact with Dictate of Erebos, for the ease of casting and because it can be used as a trick sometimes. And I think Hedron Crab and Forgotten Ancient have enough play to them that you can use them in the main cube. In my experience, people are scared of picking Enduring Renewal.

    japahn's Cube

Yeah, you shouldn't have to rely on a couple key cards for any archetype - the size of the cube is there to bring variance, and I aim to only include themes that have critical mass for 1 drafter. The latest sets have been really, really good at non-poisonous support. After my update you should...

    japahn's Cube

Thanks for taking the time to look at my cube. About the problems you pointed out on the drafts in cube tutor: I think the excess of 6-drops was due to me not prioritizing them much and training the cube tutor AI not to, and you prioritizing them. Also, I had just added some of them (to push...

    First budget cube

Did two drafts in CT, some things I noticed: - Landfall cards are there, but the only support are bounce lands. Since landfall is a fast deck here, bouncelands kind of nonbo and combo at the same time, which is awkward. Cheap fetches (Evolving Wilds) worked great, though. Also, maybe you...

    Card/Deck Blink

Flameshadow Conjuring Another option in red (though Flamerush Rider and Splinter Twin are way cooler and better). I can relate to the repetitive gameplay being annoying. I guess blink is not a fun strong theme. I'll keep a few cards that are generally good like Flickerwisp and Withdraw and, if...

    Card/Deck Blink

Blink is a common archetype in cube (also called flicker, ETB, did you catch that, search index?). The fact that so many good stuff creatures have ETB effects means that it doesn't take up many slots, so it's a popular theme to push. The problems I've had with blink are: 1. Most blink is in...

Sets [C15] Commander 2015 Spoiler Thread

Wow, Wretched Confluence is an instant. I feel like I'm repeating myself over and over, but that's really strong. The draw and the return effects are great at EoT, and incredible as collateral of a combat trick.
