Erik's "The cool side of Magic" cube

All right, I made a list of the blue cards I'm most sure about as well as some support cards. 22 Spells Faerie Conclave Brainstorm Brainstorm Brainstorm Gush Force of Will Daze Aether Spellbomb Chart a Course Trade Routes Remand Counterspell Mana Leak Condescend Blink of an Eye Tinker...

It does depend on what one considers a fundamental change. For me Pokémon is pretty much in line with Magic as a design. Sure, lands now go on creatures and the goal has changed to better fit its theme, but the play is very similar. It's simpler, because it was made for kids, but it seems very...

General Promoting Blue as a support colour for tempo/aggro

I'm reworking the blue section of my cube and one of my goals is to help make blue play better with other colours. This requires broadening blue so that it can better work in a support role for creature based decks, normally tempo or aggro. For example, I want to make Blue a better player in...

Erik's "The cool side of Magic" cube

Sure, why not? It's a fun tutor because it has a cost and it puts the card directly into play. Getting a cheap Mindslaver if you pass through some hoops seems exciting to me. After all, I'm running Trash for Treasure which is a worse Tinker and Goblin Welder, which often gets killed on sight and...

    Card/Deck Single Card Spotlight

Draining Whelk This card is very cool. Very, very cool. But how good is it? On one hand, it's very expensive. On the other, it's a counterspell plus finisher in one card and you can blink it for more. I'm sure it's better than I think but not great and I'm not sure how it would work in cube...

Erik's "The cool side of Magic" cube

I dislike Vortex because it punishes slower decks and leads to these situations where you'll lose simply because you cannot deal with it. However, that's also part of the appeal. If you want to force decks to put bodies on the ground and win, it's a way of doing it.

    I don't think it's weird. Glare cannot turn into a one-sided Armaggedon.

Thanks for the comment Onderzeeboot. Sadly, the study has been misrepresented by both the researchers and the media. They haven't found Magic to be the more "complex game", they simply have found a combination of cards and moves that doesn't lead to a computable outcome. So they haven't found...

To change topics, I wonder how the old players I'm taking my cube with will react to to Blink and cards like Kor Skyfisher in general. It took me a while to realize how good Skyfisher was and how much more common EBT effects have gotten. At first I thought you wouldn't play these cards without...

Sure. And nobody who has a good argument tries to claim the other person hasn't played the game. Sure.

Erik's "The cool side of Magic" cube

I'm very happy with how the cube is turning out after these last set of changes. The decks are less on rails, more interesting and more fun than before. I see more cross-pollination and less obvious targets for obvious archetypes. I think reworking white has opened as many possibilities as...

Like I said: Really, your criticisms of Hearthstone are pretty much the same criticisms one could make (and, in fact, I do make) about Magic. Playing on autopilot, dumping a lot of money to make your deck better, your decisions not mattering, etc. There's not much else to it.

Dude, I'm playing on Arena right now and if ramping into Nissa for Mass Manipulation isn't playing on autopilot, what is? We are talking about a game where the best player in the world can't rise above a 65% win rate against the field. Magic isn't exactly the height of decision-making and...

Erik's "The cool side of Magic" cube

Ah, I was just kidding Ondeerzeeboot! It does seem like a good, interesting card and more versatile than Cataclysm. And yeah, I haven't played with it. I did play with Cataclysm a bit back but it's not like I have a lot of experience with that card, either. You seem very right in that it's...

But but it doesn't destroy any lands! How can it be good? So, I went, took all the cards except the ones lined up above and thought about what directions to take the colour from there. I saw a thread on WR Artifact Aggro, and it seemed good on paper. After all, I already support Red Artifacts...

What do you guys think of this card? I'm unhappy with Control Magic as a design, but Threads of Disloyalty seems weak/narrow. Thoughts? Legacy's Allure
