Sets [MIC] Midnight (Hunt) Innistrad - Commander

Even another curse that you can put on yourself, but depends a bit on the matchup. Seems wicked strong regardless. Free creature off the top every turn? AND self mill (or opponent mill)? It is seven mana, but hey. Wincons should cost a bit, right?

Not the best reanimation target, but a sweet delve variant. I like the simple elegance of Tombstalker too much for this to step in though.

Sigarda's Vanguard is a beating, but I don't think many white sections around here actually really need or want the effect (especially thanks to the insta-kill potential).

I think Ravnic's selection shows that GW "lands" can definitely be supported at lower power levels. knight of the reliquarylathiel, the bounteous dawnmaja, bretagard protector

Censor is great for our formats. I think even better is the classic miscalculation. That extra 1 on the "unless you pay" makes it another order of magnitude closer to just being Counterspell than Censor is, and cycling is a much lower priority on a counterspell (which you usually want to keep to...

pretty much exactly this for my format as well

From my point of view GW literally is the "generic beatdown" pairing, and there's no reason not to just lean into that. It's a card design archetype WotC doesnt shy away from, so why should we. And like Shamizy says, some of the cards end up being rewards rather than signposts, and that is fine...

GW "does" efficient creatures, so all of those examples are very on theme and "do" exactly what is expected for the color pair. I think maybe what you want to say is "they don't do anything I personally enjoy" because they all are very effective at helping GW decks win games in various ways. My...

Much prefer Hanwier Garrison in R, even with the annoying trinket text.

Instant speed is also nice. It's a decent option for that "thrill of possibility" slot(s) in many of our cubes. I might include it over fast // furious

"much" The repeated activation feature is one thing, but it combined with the difficult to remove permanent type really makes it spicy. But it all comes down to what your decks can do with the card at the end of the day. Madness is obviously an option for you, not sure what other kinds of...

    Card/Deck Single Card Spotlight

One of Channeler's best features is that it operates well at any point in the game. Playing it on curve offers either early defense or an opportunity for a card advantage engine. Playing it late means it likely comes in as a 2 mana 4/4 ready to dish out damage. And late game the exiling ability...

It's mill one or draw a land but the mill allows for madness to maybe happen. The way it's worded reads really poorly for our brains because it mentions the discard (IMO) but it's mill 1 a tap with upsides.

From that set of 8 cards, this catches my eye as a potentially powerful draw engine for some types of red decks: You can enchant yourself with this, drawing three cards a turn and pitching whatever's left at EOT. Mid-late game in a spells deck or some sort of GR midrange deck, that can be pure gas.

Surveil 3 with flashback is a pretty cute "cantrip" variation. Might team one of these with one Consider in my U one drop slots. Aggressive 2CMC thrashing brontodon in white? With flash? not shabby at all.

Yeah. that part alone makes this mechanic extremely frustrating for me. It puts it out of sync with how other transform mechanics work, and makes cards that reference transformation only work on some cards that transform, but not all, and other cards that do the day/night thing only work with...
