    General "Looking for a card"-Thread

The basis of the Karsten article is "certain % fail state casting a thing turn X". The card not being in your hand is fundamental to that math, which he left out. If it's not in your hand, you can't cast it no matter how many mana sources you have! You have other things to be casting at the...

Karsten. That's the popular article I was thinking of in the other thread. Nice coincidence.

Not just black, but if we are talking control, I'm guessing U is in the mix: baleful strix Gifted Aetherborn is seconded as a really nice option, and considering the better mana calculation article (IMO), it's really not a big deal to cast it. Effectively the really popular article I can't...

Beyond even that, "submarine" is really a shorting of the full term of "submarine boat". We all just be calling them "Under Sea Boats"

    General Favorite Planeswalker Cards?

in practice those are huge "ifs". Unless your format is literally as fast as Modern, aggro decks will frequently hiccup and hit T6, and many, many midrange deck struggle against either the + or -. Really just not a fun card to play against, and not needed for almost any cube archetype. There are...

    General Subtheme: Weenie Recursion

fleshbag marauder is fun to recur. Not necessarily good at higher powers, but really fun. selfless spirit has been mentioned before. A solid flier that saves a bigger dude or maybe the entire board, multiple times if recurred. Missed in my above post, does the targeting/recurring all by...

Aerialist for sure. The flying body is going to be much more helpful to a wider range of the decks listed.

    General Currently Standard

That's pretty odd. They go very highly in my playgroup. I guess the general populace of Arena is less experienced with cube drafting in general.

I've found my average cube deck to have far more non-basics than virtually any draft deck I've made. I think FotD would more easily proc in cube than in limited, with the caveat that you actually have to get to that critical mass of lands (game has to go on long enough).

The Thorn Mammoth you mention in your cube thread would be my first pick for that slot, and it looks like overall that is your choice for the slot so far if I'm understanding your two recent post correctly. (Avenger -> Thorn but then Hornet -> Avenger). Cutting down to one 7 drop in this slot is...

Erik's "The cool side of Magic" cube

Mazemind Tome is awesome for a durdly artifact trinket in more controlling decks. It's a Jayamdae Tome that modern decks can actually afford to run. Once/if I do a 2021 overhaul, it's definitely up for consideration. I think Thorn Mammoth is an excellent include, as it will be instrumental in...

    Card/Deck Single Card Spotlight

It's only as busted as "no ETB effect + active and ongoing sacrifice effect" can get, which isn't overly busted. It's a centerpiece card for a GB Rock deck, but by no means making people flip tables. The fact that it can drive neat synergies like drawing off a fetch, pairing with Crucible...

My format is also pretty slow, and you can also win with Sandwurm convergence there. Just a higher focus put on non-midrange strategies I suppose. Decks that aren't just curving threat into threat into threat or answer into answer.
