I don't think this is true at all. Venser was pretty mediocre when I ran him in a mid-power environment, and I can't see him getting better anywhere up the curve. A lot of the environments that run high-power cards and are still able to accommodate Venser tend to be slow or more inconsistent...

Probably because it's harder to splash. Bake into a Pie is already a mediocre card because of its high mana cost for what amounts to a Murder with a tiny upside, and the fact that it isn't easily splashed basically kills it for 90% of Cubes.

Yeah, I think the normal version will do for me as well. I really like the Art-Deco vibes of the mystical archive cards, but the Iris Compiet version of Abundant Harvest is even better. And it won't cost as much! This could easily be banned in Modern if the As Foretold deck ends up taking off...
