    Sets [M21] M21 Previews!

Dogcat is very cute and I love that we broke through the dog barrier finally. I'll just say that I think the effects are in the correct order. Dogs are historically companions of hunting, guarding a flock, and other "damage-y" things, while cats are historically companions of the household and...

definitely liking Demonic Embrace. Could easily swap out herald of torment for it and really clean up the slot

Pretty metal flavor text on that Rite of Flame

Wayfinder all the way for me too. Self-mill is more stable of an archetype when it's spread out in small, manageable chunks across a good portion of the deck. There's little to no feast-or-famine this way and it's a lot more consistent to draft. Wayfinder is a perfect example of this sort of...

    Card/Deck Wx Cycling

I have cycling lands in my BLB without even having a cycling theme, and it works out great. No rules to it except common sense stuff like "sharing is caring"

    General Companions, Yay or nay?

Damn Lurrus is one of what, 4 "legit" cards that are straight banned in Vintage?

    General Companions, Yay or nay?

This is pretty much what I subconsciously ended up feeling/doing. I played standard for a long time, pretty much exactly until BFZ rotated in, at which point I quickly tailed off on standard play and haven't gone back since.

    General Companions, Yay or nay?

I would use some of them if I sharpied off the companion text. They are still very good inclusions to the main 40 of a deck just with their normal ability text!

yah meant 10. Those 4 steps are an example of exactly what I'm talking about. Marketing pressure on R&D. Companions working like Commanders was certainly one of the very first things that sprung to mind when I saw them.

Sets [IKO] Ikoria: Lair of Behemoths

By and large, all R&D departments are by definition there to push the envelope (To develop: to expand by a process of growth; to determine the possibilities of [mtg in this case]). They are usually also at the behest of a very powerful department: marketing. That's a nasty combination, and isn't...

    Card/Deck Single Card Spotlight

It is much easier to get to 20 cards in your deck than you might be thinking. Unless your format is blazing fast. Most blue decks especially should be able to meet this criteria without any real effort.

General RNG Tries to Fuck Me Up?

seems like simple probability just doing it's thing, tinged with some negative bias. It is a slightly higher number of "high" drops than I might expect in a true sligh deck, but hardly unusual for cube. A number of the bigger cards help with any stumble that might've taken place earlier on...

    Card/Deck Single Card Spotlight

struggle // survive is a GY wipe, which requires a little bit of deck planning, and makes it better GY hate than GY recycler. That said, the front end is a great scaling removal spell for red that isn't a super costly X spell. Can't blow your opponent out like an X spell either.

    General Fight Club

I would pick the devil because I'm in a RB deck, assuming that's the color combo of the aristocrats deck? And I would then pick the sharpshooter if it furthers support for my drafting. I would happily run both in a sacrifice-based deck, there's really no problem here. The devil is a perfect...

    General Fight Club

I like the devil and the sharpshooter, and think both can easily be run. The devil provides that all-important signpost for the color pair, and the sharpshooter can provide a complementary pinging effect in red. Note that the sharpshooter does not ping "by himself" because of the first line that...

    Card/Deck Low Power Card Spotlight

Heirloom blade is powerful, but has never been overbearing for me. It offers no evasion or other effects for the creature it's actually attached to. I think a rare well balanced equipment that offers card draw to decks that might otherwise be lacking.
