    Card/Deck Single Card Spotlight

laboratory maniac Someone sell me on this. How hard is it to support? Can this just be something tutorable that wins a long game (and is a gray ogre otherwise)? Or does it need more infrastructure than that? Cards like this are very hard to evaluate and need to be played.

    Card/Deck Single Card Spotlight

I really like Avalanche Riders for aggressive decks, but it can be oppressive if you are heavily reliant on bounce lands for fixing, have too many blink/flicker/recursive effects, and/or your meta is slower. I concur with Raveborn about Elesh and Sheoldred. Elesh is a complete bomb and should...

    General The Wishes

I think you guys are correct (not having generically powerful cards). They should probably be narrow or niche at least on-color (maybe all choices in a midrange list if you even want to open this door there). That means for living wish we probably need to drop any artifact/eldrazi option (so no...

    General The Wishes

That could work too. I think the appeal for me is allowing in super powerful cards well above what my list allows. Back door option into power max land. Really want Grisledaddy or Balance? Well, wish it into your deck. This effectively creates an entire archetype. The OP card wish deck. Would...

For a Living Wish package... Baneslayer Angel Inferno Titan Griselbrand Consecrated Sphinx Craterhoof Behemoth Wurmcoil Engine Kozilek, Butcher of Truth Burning Wish package... Balance Fiery Confluence Mind Twist Bribery Channel Cruel Ultimatum Burning wish package looks a lot worse by...

    General The Wishes

Along the lines of an idea someone posted about a "pandora pack" (busted pack that you'd add to a draft triggered by Lore Seeker). What about a wish package? So you add some number of the wish cards but limit what they could get to your side board or a selection of potentially stupid cards...

    General Noncreature Blue One Drops

Opt is another weaker cantrip. It's instant too, so plays nice with draw/go strategies.

The Penny Pincher Cube 2.0--Inventors' Fair

Dual mode gravedigger/targeted discard. That's neat. Fair enough on the curve. I was most likely going to use Undead Gladiator as a cycle 2 early in the game and I certainly always do that with Eternal Dragon. Both can be recurred too, so it's almost a no-brainer.

    General Noncreature Blue One Drops

Quicken is a neat effect. I like a lot of what you listed though. Silent Departure is solid. Piracy Charm is flexible. And if you like Distortion Strike, there's also Shadow Rift which is a nice cantrip when you don't have an attacker (cast it on your opponents dude EOT). Don't throw...

The Penny Pincher Cube 2.0--Inventors' Fair

Confirmed. I made a Genesis deck and I see all sorts of value here (cycle dudes, shredder, etc). The power level is lower here too, so solid value like that is going to win games whereas that sort of thing is often not good enough in higher powered lists (it has to be degenerate or really...

The Penny Pincher Cube 2.0--Inventors' Fair

This feels solid (minus the absolute blank on nonbasic... oops). I love GB midrange. I didn't get spider spawning, which would be sweet in this. Two cards you might consider... Nostalgic Dreams (over Wildest Dreams?). And maybe Satyr Wayfinder? It's absolutely perfect in this deck and...

The Penny Pincher Cube 2.0--Inventors' Fair

I wonder with the reduced ETB package if Genesis is worth it? It hurts me to say that because I love the card so much. But I have found the playability of that card in my lists hinges entirely on what utility engine I can get going. Because a creature/effect that is more than 3 mana is too...

The Penny Pincher Cube 2.0--Inventors' Fair

The artifact thing just came together. I saw eggs and then a braids and then a trading post and I was like "nice, that all goes well together AND combos with my aristocrats thing!" Trading Post is like the quintessential value card in a midrange cube. I love that card. It does a little...

The Penny Pincher Cube 2.0--Inventors' Fair

This is a cool deck. Started with Reckless Wurm and really wanted to make a madness thing happen with some Drake Haven synergy, but that didn't wheel and I cut blue entirely in the end. Tried to hit enough life gain for searing meditation, but that didn't pan out unfortunately. Just a couple...

The Penny Pincher Cube 2.0--Inventors' Fair

Drafted this. I blasted through the draft so it's not great. Can't remember what my first pick was (maybe a ninja), but I wanted to see where I could go with UB ninjas which is a cool deck to play so I stuck with that to the end. I feel like this desperately needed some incremental ETB dudes...

    General Fight Club

I haven't tried Flayer. I have tried a few delirium cards and that's hard to trigger, even more so in my cube without walkers. But Golgari has a lot of ways to get stuff in the yard, so it might be better in this color pairing. I think for me though, I dislike the amount of text on Flayer. It's...

    General Fight Club

Welcome to the forums Wumpa (officially)! I too have found a lot of valuable information on MTGS over the years and still go there often. While it focuses mostly on power max design, having that context to lens data through is helpful. And I have started to see a small shift in posts even...

    Card/Deck Low Power Card Spotlight

I feel like the cost of that (BBGG) is problematic in much the same way Ghost Council of Orzhova. The ability is sweet but getting all that mana is harder in a limited environment (though to be fair GB is probably better positioned to do it with birds and things like Elves of Deep Shadow).

    Retro Combo Cube

I came to the same conclusion on the that 2/1. I did test it and the trigger is harder than both crawler and blosdsoaked. And then there's all that text on it versus sarcomancy (my likely swap target) and it didn't feel worth it to me. I may revisit but for now likely not.

    Retro Combo Cube

Headed to San Diego for the weekend but wanted to make a quick post before I left. I referenced a blog post awhile back from Nick that talked about the two different types of cube - midrange and combo. I've been using this in card evaluations for a few months now and I think it's extremely...
