    Retro Combo Cube

Quick update... still fiddling quite a bit with the list but I think I'm down to the final 5% tweaking stage. Looking at the rough deck lists I have, it's quite clear how different this meta will be from my midrange cube (despite a lot of card overlap). And how much that is changing my card...

Card/Deck How to execute a minimalist Enchantment theme

Zur into things like O-Ring or Pacifism effects is pretty fun and can be powerful. 4 is a lot to pay though and you'd probably want to lean towards a more terror type black removal suite (so he's a less risky investment). Another cool thing with Zur... because he puts things like Pacifism...

Card/Deck How to execute a minimalist Enchantment theme

Power level I feel drops considerably after those two auras. If you are looking for something else, I'd be looking at non-auras (o-ring and it's brethren). If you need more auras specifically, maybe pacifism? If they need to target your dudes (say for heroic), I would probably play with...

Card/Deck How to execute a minimalist Enchantment theme

I'm assuming you are already running Griffin Guide and Gryff's Boon? I'd run both of those over Hyena Umbra. I tried the umbra and had one too many edicts two for one me. Both Guide and Boon offer you value when your dude dies while the umbras don't.

    Reuke 540 (Opinions Wanted!)

Pretty high powered list. Assuming that is the direction you want to go, I'd probably do the following: Faith's Fetters in for Suppression Bonds - bonds looks really low power to me. Fetters is unconditionally better unless my reading comprehension is off. Guardian of the Guildpact - peasant...

The Penny Pincher Cube 2.0--Inventors' Fair

Big fan of the Penny Pincher project. Few comments I have: 1. Ninjas... is there enough value without ETB dudes? Take Ninja of the Deep Hours. You are paying at least 1U + orig creature cost to deal 2 and draw a card. My midrange cube was much more powerful, but the ninja deck was...

    Card/Deck Low Power Card Spotlight

The temples are great too. And it's probably no coincidence since cycling and scry are two of the best mechanics in all of Magic. I think I said this before somewhere, but the game itself probably would be better with a cycle or scry mechanic built right into the actual game. Once per turn...

    Card/Deck Low Power Card Spotlight

I'm caving in the horse's skull right now with a sledgehammer, but I want to make sure it's good and dead... Cycle lands look like crap. But here's the thing, they are the intersection where theory-crafting and magical Christmas land meet reality. I don't care how tight your drafting and...

    Retro Combo Cube

Update to post #44 above. Been a little while since I've done much with cube, but with the new set coming out I figured a small diversion is good from my other project (not Magic related). There's also a chance we may get a small FNM group going again semi-monthly. So I want to try and get...

    General Fight Club

I'm suggesting the context you described shouldn't really be happening at higher power levels. Are top deck wars really that common these days? There's just seems to be so much built in CA/quality and raw power to just end games. What deck can afford to play a 3 mana cycle card in the hopes...

    General Fight Club

There's careful study. Also Careful Consideration if you need more draw/discard outlets. Those are pretty good. You can also toss in some Waterfront Bouncer. That card can be especially potent. Doesn't look like much, but his ability is bonkers in creature dominated metas.

    General Fight Club

I'm talking average card power level. If you are running mostly rare cards (even lower powered rares), I find it very hard to believe you will win more games with an Oona's Grace engine versus virtually any other card in it's place.

Toss in Magmatic Insight. Seems perfect fit here.

    General Fight Club

In a limited setting, I can see Grace being useful. But this is very slow and isn't even CA. Power level has to be very low for this to be worthwhile.

    Card/Deck Single Card Spotlight

Depends on your cubes power level. I saw some pretty degenerate things while running Hardened Scales. But it's also a really awesome signal for the +1/+1 deck, something I think helps make drafting more focused (and move you away from goodstuff.dec). Scales is bad if you draw it late. It...

    Card/Deck Low Power Card Spotlight

Buyback on whispers is so expensive though. Not sure where the power level has to drop to for that to be worth a card. I just got done arguing for onslaught cycle lands, which is what Muse is 99% of the time. Thing is you can still use the cycle land as an actual land if you need it. It...

    General Fight Club

I haven't played with either, but they honestly look very clunky. Grace in particular. 6 mana, discard a land to draw 2 cards? Yikes. Unless you are desperate for ways to discard lands, I think you are much much better off with Think Twice (lower power option) or Deep Analysis (higher...

    Card/Deck +1/+1 Counters

Depends on where your cube's power level is. Mine was fairly high and Cytoplast Root-kin wasn't worth 4 mana. Hardened Scales is really strong with a +1/+1 counter theme. It broke some cards (Managorger Hydra), so YMMV there. But I found it to be the single best card to try and build around, so...

    Sets AEther Revolt Spoilers

Just comparing it to Disfigure, the base mode hits fewer things in my retro list at least. How often do we think revolt will be triggered? Even then, it's better but not by a huge amount (10% more targets maybe - could be more in modern lists)? And is this really better than Snuff Out or...

    Card/Deck Single Card Spotlight

I still hold that Arcane Savant is the best blue creature ever printed by a pretty wide margin. So I'd go with no.
